Not sure about the component XP Apps : GUI Features... Win98SE Mozilla build 2001080804 When mozilla plays my new mail sound, I can't do anything but to wait until the sound finishes playing. Steps to reproduce 1. Manually edit your prefs.js to add those 3 lines user_pref("mail.biff.play_sound", true); user_pref("mail.biff.use_default_sound", false); user_pref("mail.biff.sound_file", "C:\\Windows\\newmail.wav"); 2. Put a wav file named newmail.wav in your windows folder (choose a wav which lasts long enough for you to nitoce the UI non-responsiveness) 3. Send yourself a email and wait for the sound 4. While the sound plays try the menus, buttons, links, etc... Results : UI frozen while playing the sound Expected result : Sound would play in the background

This may have been fixed on windows with the recent checkin for bug 71143, butmail new sound notification don't seem to work in today's builds to we can't test it. Using 2001083003

We now use the sound for specified by the OS for new mail as per http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64475 Testing is now working and as i thought, it works fine. No more UI responsiveness issue, so this bug seems fixed. Please confirm please so we can mark FIXED on this bug. (though there may still be some problems on LINUX...)

Yes we now use the os system sound when mail arrives. Marking this bug as worksforme.
