I was thinking something semi-related today (I was wondering what I would miss if I closed the blist window and kept only the conversation window with the awesometab for whenever I needed to open another tab). My conclusion was that I would miss seeing which convs on hold may have interesting new messages. So I was thinking that maybe we should rank close to the top existing conversations with unread messages. I don't see a strong reason for ranking conversations on hold without new messages before frequent contacts.

*** Original post on bio 2155 at 2013-09-11 15:30:04 UTC *** If I have a conversation on hold, its "recent" value is unbeatable, and so arguably its previous frequency shouldn't matter much when calculating recency (it might be zero if it's the first time we joined). It's an edge case. How much less it should matter is something we'll have to experiment with - let's leave this until after ranking lands, I agree there *may* not be anything to fix.
