See bug 956959 for additional info. The summary is that programmatic focus on an input doesn't seem to be reliable in all contexts. Here's a rough test case which approximates what happens in webpay. http://jsbin.com/OrIzUQUk/2/ The expectation is that loading this up in a browser would allow you to type and what you type should appear in the paragraph. In firefox for android 29.0a1 the keyboard is raised but typing doesn't have any effect. The keyboard raising suggests the focus is happening. Clicking the screen re-runs the focus and then things work as expected.

Is this a regression? How does the behavior compare to release/beta/aurora?
(In reply to :Margaret Leibovic from comment #1) > Is this a regression? How does the behavior compare to release/beta/aurora? This is reproducible on all shipping channels.

programmatic focus grabbing is terrible, please don't do that.

(In reply to Brad Lassey [:blassey] (use needinfo?) from comment #3) > programmatic focus grabbing is terrible, please don't do that. Unfortunately not doing that isn't really an option. Do you have any other thoughts?
I think you'd have to give more context as to what you're trying to accomplish.
