Details

Firefox 26, Mac.

I have set the hidden pref dom.popup_allowed_events to nothing — for sanity. See kb.mozillazine.org/Dom.popup_allowed_events

I go to the address www.url4u.org/aHR0cDovL3VsLnRvLzc3M2E0cGRl=
I wait a little.
I drag-and-drop the link "Votre lien" into the address bar.

* Expected behaviour : *
The target page loads (404 error). And that's it.

* Actual behaviour : *
The target page loads (404 error). But an intrusive window jumps in and goes hide behind my window.

Thank you fixing this.

Nicolas

Nicolas, I wasn't able to reproduce this. When I set dom.popup_allowed_events to nothing, Firefox 26 blocked the popup for me on Mac OS X 10.8.5.

Can you attach the contents of about:support to the bug? Or, try in Firefox safe mode to see if it still happens for you then?

Liz,

To reproduce the bug you may need to erase your cookies, sessions... Here is what I do :
I create a new Firefox profile. And I set the hidden pref to nothing.
And I reproduce the (evil) bug.

I reproduce this bug also with this address http://uploaded.net/file/bivqvh5h/830.0.mpeg.sd.mp4 and with clicking "Free Download" — except that here an intrusive popup window jumps in, without hiding behind.

Nicolas, I can confirm your second example in comment 3. :)

The first example, I have not been able to replicate, even with a clean profile.

I can't. I just tried setting the "dom.popup_allowed_events" preference to the empty string in a 2014-04-01 nightly and trying the site in comment 3. I get a popup blocked notification and no popup when I click that button. This is true in both e10s and non-e10s mode.

Liz, Nicolas, are you still seeing this?

This works for me now in Nightly (Firefox 40).

Description: I can't drag “Votre lien” onto the location bar. Simply clicking the link doesn't attempt to open any pop-ups.

Comment 3: the pop-up is blocked.
With Firefox 36.0a1, I do the steps of comment 2 and comment 3.
The bug does not occur. :-)

Why? A regression?
With Firefox 36.0a1, I can.

Bug 1152888 maybe. It works now. I still don't see an attempt to open a pop-up when dragging “Votre lien” to the location bar, so I don't think that's a valid example anymore.

Thanks for the update. No reason to keep this open when the reporter and three other people can't reproduce the issue anymore.
