If no devices are connecting to Hotspot, it should be turned off to conserve power. This disable hotspot when no connection is established in N (configurable) minutes.

[User Story] As a user, I would like to increase battery life. Reducing power consumption by disabling hotspot feature when "no connection" is established in certain time.
OS: Mac OS X → Linux
Hardware: x86 → ARM
Summary: Hotspot shall be disabled automatically, when feature is not used → WiFi Hotspot shall be disabled automatically, when no device connects to hotspot
Blocks: b2g-WLAN-2.0

I remember that this bug should be fixed by partner.
Flags: needinfo?(wchang)
OEM partner was going to contribute this but they are checking again if this is required. If not it will be waived/postponed.

Youngjun, can you feedback here once you confirm if this is needed?

In case the requirement is still valid, please use this bug for your development.

Thank you

remove target milestone based on the discussion with Ken and Ravi.

Correction...needs partner on GAIA part.

We conclude that it's not necessary for us.

Hi Ravi, this is not needed from partner, waived this story from v2.0 and move it to backlog?
Flags: needinfo?(rdandu)
Yes, I'll move this to backlog.

Youngjun, Can you help clarify the reason why this is deemed unnecessary, so we can appropriately consider that in our prioritization. Much appreciated.

No longer blocks: b2g-WLAN-2.0
Flags: in-moztrap?(hlu) → in-moztrap?(echang)
We and our partner thought that it's a lower priority than other features for V1.4.

In Firefox OS, since it's a lower profile smartphones OS, I think it should have itself a button with the option of auto turning on/off the Wi-Fi. If the device could turn on the Wi-Fi when I arrive home (e.g), and even turn off the 3g meanwhile the Wi-Fi is connected, and then turn off the Wi-Fi and turn on the 3g when I go out home (and every place when I usually connect to wifi), this would make Firefox OS an intelligent OS.

And since to do this you should only learn the operator network cell identifiers of the places where the smartphone is connected to Wi-Fi, you shouldn't waste battery since this data is something the system is always reading.

It would be something like what Wi-Fi matic does in Android, but in FFOS itself. Wi-Fi matic is an open source android app that activates and deactivates Wi-Fi of your device automatically depending on your location, helping you to save battery and consumption of data through your operator network. It DOES NOT USE GPS nor Android network location services, as it uses your operator network cell identifiers (cell tower identifiers) as the relative location where you are, and where your Wi-Fi networks are. Wi-Fi Matic detects and learns automatically locations where you are connected to a Wi-Fi.

To sum up, it remember where you usually connect to Wi-Fi throug operator network cell identifiers, and when you are there it turns it on, and where you go to other places it turns it off automatically.

In a low profile smartphones OS like FFO, this would help to save a lot of battery.

This is a great idea. Ravi, would you like to survey this to see if we should put it in our backlog.

Great idea to reduce power consumption: Turn off WiFi when device goes to a cell id in which it did not previously connect to WiFi.

Do we have an idea of how much power savings in obtained from the App
https://sites.google.com/site/wifimaticapp ?

Lets file a separate bug to track this, as it is different from the hotspot power savings for current bug.

Separated Alex (alex.vlc88@gmail.com) idea to Bug 1013604 - Turn off WiFi when device is in a cell where it has previously never connected to a WiFi network
This is a feature of setting app.
