Steps to reproduce:

I have an IMAP inbox linked to a GMail account, which I also frequently read using Boxer (which seems to use the Google API, and also frequently fails to sync, though it will usually eventually catch up unlike Thunderbird) or Mailbox (another IMAP client) on an iPad, and less often on GMail webmail.


Actual results:

When there's only a few messages in the Inbox, it updates correctly reflected the changes made elsewhere. However, usually when there is more than a small number of messages, Thunderbird stops updating, and the only thing that will then bring it back into sync is a Properties -> Repair. Or maybe it quietly fails to connect one time and thereafter fails to sync, I can't tell. But most days I have to manually repair at least twice. I can't see any specific factors that occur each time it fails, but the characteristics are a high rate of change on the server independent of Thunderbird and more than 8 or 9 messages in the inbox.


Expected results:

The inbox state should reflect the GMail server state.

"What phenomenon at where on what" do you call by your "fails to sync"?
What do you call by "changes made elsewhere"?

(a) New mail in Inbox is not shown in Tb even though it's shown in other mail client?
(b) Deleted mail by other mail client or by IMAP server won't disappear(or won't be marked as Deleted) in Tb?
(c) When mail's Unread/Read state, Starred state, added tag etc. is changed by other IMAP client,
      the state change is not reflected in Tb?

If (b)/(c) and if IDLE is enabled, dup of bug 693204. (see bug 512745 for Gmail specific phenomenon)

Please test version 31.5.0 when it comes out in a bout a month, and give us your results.

FYI.
If Gmail IMAP, bugs referred in bug 912216 can occur unless you change Tb's option settings relevant to known bugs.
