I think it would make more sense to update http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/annotate/31113754db3b/browser/themes/windows/browser.css#l474 to only affect buttons in a toolbar.

Why not use [cui-areatype="toolbar"]:not(.overflowedItem) ? This is how we've tended to solve this elsewhere...

Because the cui-areatype isn't set on toolbarbuttons in a toolbaritem, for instance.

When combined with .toolbarbutton-1, that would be a bug.

Bug caused by (feature/regressing bug #): Australis
User impact if declined: toolbarbuttons with dropmarkers (type menu and menu-button) have their dropmarker inverted when using an LWT, making them hard to see.
Testing completed (on m-c, etc.): on m-c for a while
Risk to taking this patch (and alternatives if risky): very low
String or IDL/UUID changes made by this patch: none
