Search Body shouldn't look inside (binary) attachments

I was scanning a folder for a mail which has the word 'IWM' in the body. To my
surprise this took a very long time, and it also found several mails which did
NOT contain the word IWM at the first look. Later I found it when I opened
'View->Message Source'.
It turned out that it was present as part of the base64 encoding of a MPEG
attachment. I don't think that 'Search Body' should have scanned this. Is it
possible to skip binary attachments for a search? Or to restrict it to text-only
attachments ('Search Text')? Or no attachments at all (Search Text/Search
Attachments/Search Body & Attachments) ? At least, Zilla should be able to look
*inside* the attachments, not the actual base64-encoding.
Here's a part of a mail that was found in this search :
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
boundary="------------020708050601060002070805"
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--------------020708050601060002070805
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
--------------020708050601060002070805
Content-Type: video/mpeg;
name="vegis[1].mpeg"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: inline;
filename="vegis[1].mpeg"

...
(the 'IWM' signature was inside this attachment)

Marking these all WORKSFORME sorry about lack of response but were very
overloaded here. Only reopen the bug if you can reproduce with the following steps:
1) Download the latest nightly (or 0.9.6 which should be out RSN)
2) Create a new profile
3) test the bug again
If it still occurs go ahead and reopen the bug. Again sorry about no response
were quite overloaded here and understaffed.

I wanted to reopen this when I was in the office, but Christopher beat me to it
:-) Don't forget that this will speed up a search enormously (when searching in
the body). Currently, Mozilla will scan all attachments, even 32MB MPEG files.

howdy y'all,
[1] my tb info ...
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051201 Thunderbird/1.5 - Build ID: 2005120115
[2] mozillazine thread started "Posted: Tue, 2006-Feb-21, 08:39am"
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=384488
[3] this problem is _extremely_ nasty. now that virtual folders are so easy to make & so potentially handy, this bug shows up often for me. i didn't even realize it was happening until i saw the thread listed in item [2] above.
virtually any relatively short search criteria can trigger the problem if you have emails with attachments in the search target. you get rather large numbers of false positives.
[4] PRODUCT = mozilla application suite
since it exists in tbird150, perhaps "core" might fit better? i don't understand the organization well enuf to determine that.
take care,
lee

mailnews:core applies to both thunderbird and seamonkey (aka mozilla application suite)
