sorry for the lack of details. https://eg.dmv.ca.gov/foAppt/Welcome.jsp is
down, if it were up and I'd reproduce this and save the page source.

I need a better bug report here...
What window is being copied? Mail Compose? Browser?
What did you select for copying?
Reassign back to reporter for better bug report :-)

I have seen this bug off and on for the past several weeks. It happens not just
in Composer, but in the browser, Mailnews, any part of Mozilla.
I am not sure what first triggers the bug, but when it happens, anything copied
from Mozilla and then pasted (back into mozilla, or into any other app) will be
wrong. The problem will persist until Mozilla is closed
It appears that the clipboard acts like a queue or something. I copy something,
then when I paste, I get something else that I had previously copied in the same
session. If I then copy a third thing, I paste the second thing. If I copy a
fourth thing, I paste the third thing. If I copy a fifth thing, I paste the
fourth thing, and so on, ad nauseum.

<ot>re: wrapping--it's probably lynx's fault ;-)</ot>
re: DOM elements--excellent point. Context for sniffing and actual usage would be easily differentiated. I think this would qualify as another bug tho' ;-)
re: Hall of Shame. I disagree here. Although I'm calling it a Hall of Shame, it's actually more than just a list. It's offering to work around bugs on these web sites. If not for the Hall of Shame, Mozilla REALLY wouldn't work on these sites. The Hall of Shame offers the users the option to get it working. That HAS to be a net positive in any reviewer's mind (working via a pref as opposed to not working at all). The update button could be on the prefs page, to avoid accidental hitting. There could even be a checkbox to auto-update the list on a daily/weekly basis for kiosks. Since your point about DOM elements is well taken, this pref is probably only to be used for banking/insurance sites that sniff for "IE" in the user-agent string and reject all others. There's no real way to work around this on our side OTHER than spoofing.
As far as lawsuits, I think we're a solid ground. We're not saying this is a hitlist of badly designed websites (we're just implying that!), we're offering users the option to work AROUND badly designed sites. If it's just user-agent spoofing, it won't matter if Mozilla continues to spoof even after the site changes its code.
Admittedly, this bug is self-correcting. Assuming evangelism actually works on everyone, this bug is totally useless. I think that this is just a way of putting a little more pressure on those sites to change their code. We've already got a pretty good database of bad sites started here, just search the tech evangelism component in bugzilla!

This problem can be seen with my [http://www.rossde.com/] using Mozilla 1.4CR1
with Windows 98SE. After loading the page, right-click to get the pull-down
menu and select Select All. Right-click again and select Copy. Then paste into
Word, Wordpad, or Notepad. At the top, you will see a line -- "Note: My Web
pages are best viewed with style sheets enabled." -- that was not visible in the
Mozilla window and should not be visible with any browser unless style sheets
are disabled.
If you view the source HTML, you see that the supposedly hidden line has a <div
class=nostyle> before it. In my style sheet at
[http://www.rossde.com/genl_style.css], class .nostyle is defined as { display:
none }.
