This came up in some meetings, but it appears never made it to Bugzilla, so I'm trying to correct that. One of the top findings from our January user research was that users overwhelmingly expected the browser (and Rocketbar) to look like the Firefox desktop browser start page, visually. Without prompting, they described the style of the search field in Firefox in detail and mentioned the fox. Users even tried to use the eBay top nav items (when eBay was shown in a browser window) as browser level navigation, we think because of its position and visual appearance (it looked most like what they said they expected, and then they saw it). The gray, black and size of Rocketbar did not say "browser" to the users, which we think may have contributed to some of their confusion about what Rocketbar was for. It is worth nothing that these users were both feature phone and smart phone users, most had familiarity with the Firefox browser. When they learned they were in a study at Mozilla, they expressed that they expected to see "more Firefox" visually. I wanted to make sure this is considered since it was a top issue.
Can you please clarify what changes would be needed? Also, I think that the current homepage was purposefully designed to be similar to that of Firefox for Android. Would redesigning it hurt consistency?
Pardon me for my ignorance in the last comment. I just checked the rocketbar homepage ;)
Seems much better now. Resolving.
