We've been using Persona to provide email addresses & email verification since we supported sign-in two years ago. In February and March we iterated on this to provide the best possible sign-up and sign-in experience using Persona. However, it's not quite good enough. There's a list of known issues like:

- The pop-up UX is very different from any other sign-in experience
- Persona requires email verification for the fallback IdP (login.persona.org), and has poor UX with larger Bigtent IdP's (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail)
- Persona requires the use of the Observer API to work on mobile
- Users use shared accounts, which means we can't count/attribute contributors properly and working on a make after the event ends becomes difficult

I'm closing this bug as part of the planned deprecation of the Webmaker component on Bugzilla.
