In Aurora (34.0a2), I was prompted with the following expanded menu and tip on the new tab page. (see attachment)
The last paragraph in the tip says, "You can turn off the tiles feature by clicking the [gear] button for your preferences."
When reading this, the gear icon menu is expanded and I do not see any way to turn off the tiles feature. It could be that the "blank" option means to turn off the tiles, but that is not immediately clear.
I am unsure if the copy in the tip, alone, should be updated and/or the menu should be more explicit that you can turn the tiles off. I've cc'd a few people closer to this project to weigh in.

Aaron, can you take a look at this?

I recommend any of the following...
"Blank (turn tiles off)"
"Turn Tiles Off"
"Do not show Tiles"

I would say "Turn tiles off" or "No tiles," as I suggested in the other bug.

What should the menu text be? Other bugs seem to have a new text of "Show a blank page" but that might not address the concerns of this bug.

I prefer the phrase "Show blank page," I think it's our best option. From the mock up in
https://bug1126186.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=8555290 you can see the deliberate avoidance of the term "tiles." This is for a couple of reasons: that term is confusing to users based on wselman's research and "tiles" does not translate well into other languages when localizing (the English equivalent would be slab, cover, etc).

Changed "Blank" to "Turn Tiles Off"
Review of attachment 8574264 [details] [diff] [review]:

Thanks for the patch schtroumps31, but it sounds like we're not sure what we want here. I agree with Ed that "Show a blank page" doesn't address this bug because there's still no obvious connection between that and the "tiles" in the what-is-this-page popup.
But if UX people are OK with that (and Kevin didn't address it in comment 7), I'd r+ a patch that uses whatever string they'd like.

In the mockup that Habber added the "What is this page" tooltip is accessible from the gear menu. Do you think this is a good idea ?

The screenshot is old. The explanation panel is triggered by a link at the top of the page now.
