This is first for Arcadio since he should have provided the string to translate. We can't translate without a source.

Setting a needinfo for Arcadio. I'm sure we can come up with this quickly, I'm just not really sure what's needed.

release-drivers/l10n API automation for Google Play as well as translation work are blocked by this missing information. Setting as Major.

Pascal, I think we should use the current string: "Want a fast, smart & safe mobile browser? Get the official free Firefox browser!"

This is 81 characters long, most locales we have for Android are 20 to 30% longer than English. We need a string that is both validated by marketing as current (I don't want to get people to restranslate it next month /ex) and with enough margin for translation.

Yes, let's definitely not use that old string. I just emailed Arcadio to try to get this resolved today.

Hey everyone
Here a few options that might work (all are under the 80 character limit):
Make your mobile browsing experience uniquely yours with Firefox for Android.
Uniquely yours. Browse the Web your way with Firefox for Android.
Browse the Web your way with the official Firefox for Android mobile browser.
Let me know what you think.

OK, after a discussion with Arcadio, here's the final line:
Fast, free and uniquely yours. Browse the Web your way with Firefox for Android.
Sorry for the delay and thanks to everyone for your patience.

This new string is 80 characters long which is the exact max length, which leaves no room to have longer strings for locales. We can't guarantee that this message can be translated in the constraints you provided. Also, is it really necessary to say 'for Android' for the Firefox download page on the Android market? Dropping that part would give us some margin for translation.

Didn't you say that the current string was 81 characters? How did you handle the localization of that one?
Ideally the translations would be able to preserve the meaning while keeping the character count under 80. They don't have to be literal and verbatim.
But yes, I think we can lose "for Android." And if it helps more, we could do something like one of the following:
Fast, free, uniquely yours. Browse the Web your way with Firefox.
Fast. Free. Uniquely yours. Browse the Web your way with Firefox.

Attaching a picture of the listing on mobile.
Dropping Firefox for Android works because the full name is show in the title as well. Otherwise, I would not recommend shortening the name of the product to fit word count constraints.

We didn't localize this string, we discovered we needed this string to be translated when working on API automation and that string was not provided in bug 1093554. l10n-drivers don't know where the existing translations on Google Play come from nor do we have access to what is already published, my guess is that people in charge of our listing pinged localizers in the community directly by email but none of that was documented. Since those strings are not in our translation memories, we are working on getting the Google Play description page back in normal l10n processes so as to use our tracking and automation tools to both translate and publish the copy to Google Play via scripting and APIs instead of copy/pasting.
