User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:33.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/33.0 Build ID: 20141105223254 Steps to reproduce: Open the 'Search messages...' window Right click on a folder (eg: Inbox) then click 'Search Messages...' Actual results: Currently the 'Search messages...' window opens in a window. I only offers a limited number of feature for the search results when compared to folder view. Expected results: Ideally the 'Search messages...' feature shall open directly in the main UI (simply integrate the current separate window console into main ui). Buttons could allow fast switching between 'Folder' view and 'Search Messages...' view. See more details in attachment (graphic mockup). By default, all feature available in 'Folder' view feature shall be made available in the 'Search messages...' view for similar manipulation of search results, for example: - allow quick filtering of search result by adding the quick filter toolbar (same feature as available for folder message list eg starred messages, msg with attachments, etc...). - allow classification by attachments (column header), etc... - allow preview of search results messages in a preview pane - allow action on message opened in preview pane (eg: reply among others...) - allow drag/drop of message from search result into sub-folders In addition: - layout the search result columns as per the default Inbox folder layout as set by end-user preferences. - add additional action buttons to allow search in new tab or new windows upon user preference. - keep main ui search criteria/results until the current running session of Thunderbird ends (application closed). See attachment for extended list of missing features requested... and graphic proposal.

FYI. "Search result in Thread Pane of 3pane window" is already possible, although it currently requres many steps. Advanced Search Edit View/Use the View Edit/Find /Search Messages <---> View->Customize... Select a View -> Edit Modify the View -> OK -> OK => saved Click "Search button" <---> View->Custom View->the modified View => Shown at search result panel => Shown at Thread Pane Difference is : "search subfolders" doesn't exist in "search by Edit View/Use the View" mothod. See bug 861046, please.
Hi WADA, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduced your steps probably due to the strange formatting of your message... In the search windows there does not seems to be any Edit View or View button to customize the view... Nor I can find View > Customize or View->Custom View options in menu of main interface... I am using Thunderbird 31.3.0 Would you mind to re-indicate them in the form of a bullet list (step-by-step) maybe? I thought that may help... Thank you in advance.
"View" I called : ToolBar Cistomize -> Mail View. This can be added to MenuBar or TooBar.

Hi Alessandro,

In this bug report from years ago, I had created mockup to integrate "Search Message..." (aka Advanced Search) into the main UX... maybe something to consider as part of the UX revamping perhaps for the future... worth keeping on the radar...

See Attachment 8526730 [details] "thunderbird-advanced-search-integration-into-main-ui.pdf" or images available in bug report...

Regards,
Richard
