From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120
BuildID: 20011120009
This is a very strange problem I am having and if it has been reported already
please forgive me as I am still getting adjusted to this. I recently downloaded
Mozilla version 0.9.6. and went to http://www.fox5ny.com/ there is a newsticker
which uses JAVA to scroll the headlines and a aqua blue puzzle piece stated to
click here to get the download and click on it after getting the download.
I downloaded JAVA and closed my browser and restarted my computer, now I went
back to the FOX5 site after doing all and was told again to download the JAVA
plug in and found this weird. I went to my control panel and the JAVA plug in
was there. Testing this out I went to various other JAVA sites and sure enough
all of them told me I needed the JAVA plug in.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.download Java runtime enviorment 2 plug in
2.goto any site with any sort of JAVA in this case http://www.fox5ny.com/
3. Finally take note that the runtime enviorment is downloaded yet you are being
prompted to download the plugin again
Actual Results: The actual results as above. No matter how many times the JAVA
plugin was downloaded and no matter how many times after of being instructed to
close the browser than restart it JAVA wouldn't appear nor would it function.
Expected Results: Mozilla should have acknowledged that the JAVA plug in was
downloaded succesfully and worked for every site with JAVA content.

Reassigning to Plug-ins component - compare these:
bug 101818 "Browser doesn't recognize Java plug-ins are installed", duped to:
bug 101687 "Java2 Plug-In Does Not Work"

Reporter:
Please read the release notes:
If Java doesn't work, make sure the following is true:
On Windows:
Copy the NPOJI600.DLL from C:\JDK*\jre\bin to "\plugins" directory of your
installation.
