When the labels colors prefs are set, the value is locked, and will retain the value set. However the preference doesn't look like it is locked to the user, and he can select a new color. The selection he is made is lost after the window is closed, (it returns to the locked value). the pref in question is: lockPref("mailnews.labels.color.1", "#FFCCCC"); (these are numbered 1-5)

If I'm reading the patch in 84212 correctly, it looks like there's no code specific to the pref panels to fix this bug (it looks colorpicker related). So, I'm going to mark this a dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 84212 ***
