Could the shortcut icons for each bookmarks be saved along with the URL's to bookmarks.html? At least it could be prompted for when exporting the bookmarks. The output file wouldn't get significally larger, and they could be saved at the last part of the document so that it wouldn't effect on reading time.

I bet this is a duplicate of some bug asking us to cache/save favicons upon restart/quit. Jrgm, do you know of one?

Well, we do (modulo bugs and crashes) save the favicons in the disk cache, and they are available over browser restarts. But this bug is a suggestion to serialize the favicons into the bookmarks file so that they can be retained as a single unit. That's an interesting idea, but I'll dispute the assertion that this wouldn't have a significant size impact: 100 favicon's would consume >200KB, which is larger than a large bookmarks file is already. It might be possible to read them in lazily, but not as efficiently as reading them from a hash-based disk cache. At any rate, -> Future
