Favicon code does not render all icons correctly. There is a "rainbow effect" when rendering some icons, for example the one on www.gryf.net. The favicon is a very cool feature as it allows one to shorten the rendering of bookmarks on the Toolbar, for example only the "Y!" logo instead of a whole Yahoo!.

I'm not sure whether this bug IS different from the Mac bug. The results are fairly similar. I attach a partial screenshot from Windowz Mozilla to substantiate this.

I don't know if it's related to this bug, but the icon in http://www.clarin.com/ renders all black, but it's red! I'm attaching the icon.

This icon displays correctly in IE 6 as a 256 color icon with binary transparency in Windows 98/2000 or 24 bit color with alpha in XP. The logo displays as a slanted maroon block in Mozilla 1.x instead of the logo.

This is the above logo dispayed correctly as a 24 bit png file with transparency.

I am not seeing this bug on current mozilla trunk (linux); the first attached icon here was probably fixed by bug 160975, but I don't know what fixed the second one. Therefore, marking WORKSFORME. In case this does not work for you, please reopen this bug.

So far works for me as well. It would be nice if the other people that posted icons would post URLs to them so that we can check it easily with their setups.
