When selecting a message in the thread pane that contains an attachment, a small section in the message preview pane appears on the right-hand side where there is a small picture of an envelope representing the attachment (a message in this case). When I right click the envelope icon, there is an "Open" entry, which when clicked will open the attached message in an existing browser window using mailbox://. It should be possible to open this attachment in a new browser window or a new tab. Perhaps the easiest way of doing this would be to add "Open in New Window" and "Open in New Tab" options to the attachment right-click/context menu.

IMO, this should be a browser option, which should apply to all links coming from outside of Navigator and not just attachments in mail. See: bug 116653 new tab vs new window bug 75138 reuse window vs new window

Jesse, it seems bug 75138 is about the default link open behavior (e.g. double-clicking the link or message). I'm just saying there should be a right-click menu offering to open the message in a new window or tab. At the moment, there's not even the *option* of opening in a new window or tab.

To my mind, because mozilla mail/chat is a part of mozilla, it should have its own option/ability to open in new browswer window/tab (just as links in browser do). Therefore, this *could* be handled by the RFE in bug 75138, but it probably shouldn't be. Adding this to the context menu of attachments (and/or links) is the way to go.
