Need one "Learn More" page for persistent storage permission to let users know what persistent storage permission is. The link to this "Learn More" page would then appear on permission request doorhanger and on Site Data of Network of Advanced of about:preferences.

Hi Francis, Do you know whom we could turn to for making this page? Thanks

hi Fischer, please allow me to further discuss with UX. i would like to make sure if its a must in V1. hi Tina, let me know your opinion about this page in V1, personally i think it is lower priority compared to other features in V1.

Per our offline discussion, we all agreed to include a MDN page for introducing storage API to users in V1.

hi All, to be more specific, the 'learn more' page should contain 2 sections: 1. help normal user to understand what's persistent data permission an how to use it. 2. help normal user to understand how to free up physical storage space when its necessary. it is not necessary to be a MDN page (it's most likely for developer to understand API details), a Hacks page can do the job. thank you very much

For a learn more page for normal users, you likely want a page on SUMO (https://support.mozilla.org/).

I apologize for the delay. Here's a draft of the article: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/document/d/1kbZo8JCdM3gyeCHutuoYYBh2zKNpxfrC4p4KynlVfwU/edit?usp=sharing. Please let me know if it needs any changes. I will publish it as soon as we've finalized all changes. When can we expect the UI to be on Beta? I can grab screenshots and add it to the article then.

hi Joni, thank you for your prompt reply. Mike has already added some comments on your draft: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kbZo8JCdM3gyeCHutuoYYBh2zKNpxfrC4p4KynlVfwU/edit# as the Beta release time, just like i replied you by mail. thank you very much

Thanks Joni! I think the resolutions for the two screenshots is a bit low. I'll provide better images for you soon.
(In reply to Joni Savage ("need info" me) from comment #10) > The page is up: > https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Search-and-browse-settings/Storage-API-some- > websites-want-to-add-files-to-my-storage/ta-p/1380537 Hi Joni, Is this the final link? The link I received is storage-permissions link[1]. Suppose the storage-permissions link would redirect to a proper page based on OS version, locale etc. However the storage-permissions link redirects to https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Mozilla-Support-English/ct-p/Mozilla-EN, which doesn't point to our support page here. So I am guessing any setup in server side is required? [1] attachment 8810697 [details]: https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/%VERSION%/%OS%/%LOCALE%/storage-permissions Thanks

Joni, can this article be recreated on Kitsune? See bug 1368892
Thanks for need-infoing me, Alice. I've recreated this article on our old platform and had the inproduct URL redirect to the new link. You should see this article when you click on the inproduct link now: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/permission-store-data

There are major problems with this article, discovered after updating it for fx56 and fx57. The article states, (quote) "Firefox will first ask you for permission to let a website add files to your local storage" but this is not the case. Even setting offline-apps.allow_by_default to false in about:config doesn't work in Firefox 57 (it does in 56). Another major issue is that the Firefox 57 "Clear All Data" button under Privacy & Security -> Site Data clears ALL cookies. I made a revision to hide the section, "I want to modify or turn off this setting" but the article needs a major rewrite. (from comment #16) > There are major problems with this article, discovered after updating it for fx56 and fx57. <snip> Maybe a new bug should have been filed in the support.mozilla.org product, Knowledge Base Content component, instead of reopening this one. Joni, I'll leave that up to you.

Joni, I'll > leave that up to you. I think that's the correct course of action. This component was never right from the start. Or move this bug if you want to keep it open. FWIW, I agree that this page is completely inaccurate and we should consider taking it down temporarily.

I agree some of the description is not accurate in the current support page since there have been several updates with the preference's design and storage api design. Will need to add more descriptions related to the storage api mechanism.

I'll keep this bug open and move it. By the way, for anyone reviewing the article, I've added more information to the discussion thread, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/permission-store-data/discuss/7238 (including screenshots).

Nothing has been done yet about fixing this article. There's now a related question in the Firefox support forum: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1188969 How is "Site Data" entirely disabled ? (No site data allowed). The Firefox 57 documentation regarding "Site Data" is entirely incorrect.
Yesterday I was about to write more or less the same thing. We (Italians) have not translated this article yet, but I see that the number of views in still rising in the dashboard (now 9.870 views).
I temporarily archived this article. A warning, "This article is no longer maintained, so its content might be out of date." now appears at the top of the article and it won't come up in normal SUMO search results. Anyone (Joni?) who wants to update the article can use this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/permission-store-data/edit/149109
thanks for archiving the article. I've asked the team to take a look at the Google Doc and offer suggestions/edits as I can't get to the UI from 57. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kbZo8JCdM3gyeCHutuoYYBh2zKNpxfrC4p4KynlVfwU/edit

I'll close this bug since the Learn more page is now updated for fx57+ (see bug 1441804).
