We'll need a postmortem to analyze what happened and what can we do to avoid this in the future.
Will follow-up tomorrow with a date later on this week, once I gather more data from parties involved.
I think we can close this bug, we're no longer in a position of organizing a post-mortem, since we now know the culprits. Most of the actions that would have probably resulted from a post-mortem are already tracked in bug 1386625 provided by kmoir's work. Also aobreja closed today bug 1376807 which was initially adding large chunks of the pending load as well. kmoir++ and aobreja++ for getting stuff done there.
