Bug 1401955 is making the icon appear earlier than the page being loaded, so it's unnecessary or potentially could lead to attempted changing from the page.

Removing the favicon on the NewTab would be nice and would have a cleaner look. (I think this was also the case some years ago :-) )
Chrome also doesn't show a favicon on NewTab. Please see the screenshot.

Hi. Could Bug 1425449 a regression of this? I see this in todays build. But I did not see it in yesterday's build.
