The locale preference is for "no locale" URLs, like https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/map This will get redirected to: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/map However, Google prefers to link you to the Portuguese version of the page: https://developer.mozilla.org/pt-BR/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/map Whenever you follow a link like this, that already has a locale in the URL, then the URL wins. There is bug 1471829 that we ask you too much to remember your preference.
