What did you do? ================ 1. Search on Google for a keyword (say, "array map mdn"); 2. Click on a result from MDN (it will be displayed in Portuguese) 3. Change the display language of the documentation to English (US); 4. Opt for always having the docs displayed in English US 5. Repeat step 1 and 2 What happened? ============== The page will be displayed in Portuguese again. What should have happened? ========================== The page will be displayed in English as I've opted before. Is there anything else we should know? ======================================
The locale preference is for "no locale" URLs, like https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/map This will get redirected to: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/map However, Google prefers to link you to the Portuguese version of the page: https://developer.mozilla.org/pt-BR/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/map Whenever you follow a link like this, that already has a locale in the URL, then the URL wins. There is bug 1471829 that we ask you too much to remember your preference. A web extension might be able to automatically switch you to English (bug 1432826) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/english-content/ This sounds similar to bug 1440602, so marking as duplicate.
