User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:70.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/70.0
Steps to reproduce:
- start Thunderbird (in "normal" mode with plugins or in safe mode)
- open an E-Mail for viewing that
- itself is signed
- has attached one or more E-Mails (.eml) which are itself signed
Actual results:
In one case with two attached E-Mails I simply get a segmentation fault.
In another case with two attached E-Mails, only one attached E-Mail is shown to me, but apparently empty (also the size of the attachment is displayed wrong, 3.7kB instead of 10.7kB).
In case I get only one attached E-Mail it is again only shown as an empty one.
Additional step: click "forward" for that E-Mail yourself to see the content and be able to see the attached E-Mails (which then can also be viewed by double-clicking them)
Expected results:
I expect TB to list all attachments with the correct size in the mail viewer, also show the content of the attachments, and not to crash with a seg fault.

Yes, the signing was done using Thunderbird for Windows with Enigmail.
I myself DON'T have enigmail installed.
From the list of bugs I coulnd't find a similar one

Johannes, Do you still crash when using newer Thunderbird [and without enigmail installed]? (please list your versions)

Also please a stacktrace with Thunderbird symbols, or crash ID by using in install downloaded from https://www.thunderbird.net/

Ah yes. My bad.

First, I'm sorry for my late response.
The crash doesn't seem to happen with those old mails anymore. I'm now on 68.5.0.
The content not being shown in the mail viewer, and only being accessible by myself forwarding it, is continuing.

I filed bug 1611488 almost 10 months ago. It was closed as a duplicate of this one. This one is still unconfirmed and was filed a year ago. This bug is really annoying as I cannot forward signed messages, as almost nobody can read them (lots of Thunderbird users around). Perhaps the problem is on the sender side - who knows.
Is it that difficult to confirm this bug as being a bug?
Please click on the sample mail that I created, open it with Thunderbird. This email is signed and has another signed email as attachment. If you cannot read the content of the attached email than you can confirm the bug.

ThunderbirdBug1611488.emlThis is the sample mail to confirm this bug.
Franz,
Thanks for the sample. It doesn't crash for me using version 94 beta on Mac
Does it still crash for you when using version 91 or newer?

It does not crash with 91 or newer, and it actually never crashed.
Please open my sample mail, show attachments inline and look at the attached e-mail message inside of the sample. Does it show headers only or also content?
If no content is visible, and I bet it's not, then you see the bug. Look inside of the sample to see what actually should appear.
Thanks for considering this very annoying bug after such a long time.
Ciao
Franz

Johannes,
Are you able to reproduce this with version 91? I am not.

Correction - using 95.0b3 with Franz's testcase I see only the headers of the attachment.

Hi Wayne,
using 91.3.2 (64-bit) I still do not see the content of the attachments and only the header of one attachment. I can view the contents of the one where the headers are shown if I click "View Source". I see both attachments and can open and read them if I click forward and get to the mail editor.
