OS: Unspecified → Linux
Hardware: Unspecified → x86_64

Same issue (Debian unstable and Nightly 2020-05-30 x86_64). I cannot use Nightly anymore, it uses much more memory than usual and freezes at startup until I kill it.

Hi,
Thanks for submitting this bug to us!

I was unable to reproduce this issue on my end, I tried on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS with Firefox Release 77.0.1 (64-bit) and Nightly version 79.0a1 (2020-06-04) (64-bit).

Does this issue occur with a fresh profile as well? You can find the steps here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

You can also try testing if the issue is reproducible in safe mode, here is a link that can help you:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Or you can also download Firefox Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ , to see if the issue still occurs there as well.

If after doing this you can still reproduce the bug, would you send a screenshot or a video of the bug?

Thanks in advance. I've already chosen a component for this bug in hope that someone with more expertise may look at it. We'll await their answer.

Regards,
Jerónimo.

Having the contents of about:support might help as well.

Looking through the memory report, the usage is fairly high (1.2G main process, few content processes at ~150M), but not exceptionally high. How much memory usage are you seeing reported and where (what made you believe Firefox was the problem here?).

I cannot use Nightly anymore, it uses much more memory than usual and freezes at startup until I kill it.

Could you perhaps use mozregression (https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/) to find the exact change that caused the problem? That would be a great help in narrowing it down.

Aside from that, the contents of about:memory might reveal more.

I made a separate issue here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1642415

Also mozregression cannot help :/.

Reporter, are you using a localized (non-English) build?

reporter is gone.
Would have been useful to know whether language pack was being used.
