Steps to reproduce:

Starting the programme.

Actual results:

The programme starts. The servers are subsequently visited for logging in, in order to check for new messages. When these are found, the standard signal is given. When any message is clicked on, the process of opening it for display is started. All of these processes are indicated in the down-left corner. But before the sequence of checking the servers is completed, the programme crashes and a crash report (see attachment) is issued.

Expected results:

The sequence should be completed and the programme should be running until it is terminated actively by me as the only user.
By the way, none of the other programme versions is able to accept the profile that I use for many years now. I would like to convert it including all the message folders and the intensely used agenda for the use with the current version!

Sorry, but you are citing "crash details" which is of no use to us.

Please read https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/mozilla-crashreporter-tb#w_crashrapporten-bekijken and post crash IDs that are "BP-" followed by numbers.

Now I started Thunderbird in Safe Mode and there is nothing wrong. Wit or witout the extensions switched off, it runs as before. Is that good news?

This morning the programme has recovered, every section is functioning alright. Thanks for your invitation to try the Safe Mode, it seems that it made the trick!

Is there any way to tell what went wrong? If there is something that I could do to prevent this from happening again?

https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/3cf6c104-8e0b-4031-9bbe-2d9ad0210815#tab-extensions lists a large number of extensions. I would suspect one of them.

Disable half of those addons and repeat your tests. If that helps, then one of those addons is at fault. If that didn't help, the disable the remaining half.

The thing is, like I reported, after starting the programme in Safe Mode the crash was overcome. This is a very good thing, of course. The programme still functions alright. Thus it is not possible to do the tests you propose. Nevertheless, I am still curious what happened and why it seems to be cured by this one action . . . .

I missed that the problem went away. No, we don't know what caused it. So I'll close this as incomplete.

With the large number of addons, I think there's a fair chance it was caused by one of these
