User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:92.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/92.0
Steps to reproduce:
Updated Thunderbird from 78 to 91.
Actual results:
Got eye pain, dizziness, nausea...
I wish I knew what set it off, it's not animation or flashing this time, it might be a font rendering issue...
I can't search the message window to see what's off, because it hurts too much.
P.S. Also sinus and inner ear pain.
I tried to bibisect based on the severity of my pain. Got here, but I think it's a mistake:

The pain keeps coming and going.

Have you tried using the Thunderbird Dark theme?
Tools > Add-ons and Themes.
I have an astigmatism, so I get halo effects around bright text, bright lights, etc.

It appears to be a duplicate of bug 1689845. The bibisect results are hazy at best. Turning off hardware acceleration is a clear improvement.
