In addition to bug 1738269, I’m opening this one to keep track
of other keyboard navigation hindrances when trying to create
a new contact in the Address Book. (In fact, I couldn’t find any
way to create a new contact without using the mouse.)

  • The Ctrl-N combo to create a new contact doesn’t appear to work.
  • The Toolbar buttons are not reachable by hitting Tab any number of times.
  • When creating a new contact, the Save button isn’t reachable unless you
hit Tab a total of (let me count)… 48 times. I couldn’t find a mnemonic
    such as Alt-S.
  • Although the Save button, visually, looks like it’s focused by default, it’s
actually not: hitting Return won’t save the contact.
  • When tabbing through all the fields, the focused entries are not visible:
they’re actually hidden at the bottom by the “Cancel/Save” div. The entries
you do see are actually the ones you’ve just left.

Oh, there is one as it turns out. You first need to select something else than
“All Address Books” in the list, then you can Tab your way to the “New Contact”
button. I guess it makes sense, but it’s still quite cumbersome… especially
compared to Ctrl+N :-)

I filed this 4 months ago as
Bug 1751288 - Lost keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N to create a new contact in the new Address Book

  • The Toolbar buttons are not reachable by hitting Tab any number of times.

Quite unfortunate; not sure how involved this is.
Bug 1553231 - Port bug 1436086: Make all groups of buttons within our toolbars keyboard accessible and reachable via tab and shift+tab

  • When creating a new contact, the Save button isn’t reachable unless you

Good point! This has been fixed after I filed and pushed for bug 1752042 - Enter will now save the contact.
I've also just filed Bug 1771046 - Implement Ctrl+S to save contact from edit mode.

Not sure what you mean here. Is this still an issue in the latest Beta?

Thanks Valentin. Per my analysis of comment 2 and the bugs I filed, we have covered everything here. Let's close this as a duplicate in support of Bug 1751288 per your comment 1 (note: there's no way to tab to New Contact any more, but it can be reached through main menu).
