We have a preference to hide all chat features from the UI. To make better decisions about it, we need to understand how it is used.

Yes, using standard Telemetry opt-out.
- If the request is for permanent data collection, is there someone who will monitor the data over time?
Yes, Martin Giger will.

Category 2.

Default on for all channels, countries, and locales.
- Does the instrumentation include the addition of any new identifiers?
No.
- Is the data collection covered by the existing Thunderbird privacy notice?

Bug 1777232 - Report mail.chat.enabled in tb.preferences.boolean probe. r=#thunderbird-reviewers
[Approval Request Comment]
Regression caused by (bug #):
User impact if declined: Smaller dataset to use telemetry for decisions
Testing completed (on c-c, etc.): Has been on beta for a long time now.
Risk to taking this patch (and alternatives if risky): Adds a data point to an existing telemetry probe, so I can't think of any risk to the user.
