This add-on?
https://addons.thunderbird.net/addon/autoarchivereloaded/
If not, please provide a link where I can download the add-on you are using.
Hi @john, yup, this one.
FYI I openned a ticket on the add-on side (https://github.com/Brummolix/AutoarchiveReloaded/issues/79).
I got the suggestion that as it crash TB completely (and shouldn't be able to) I should open a ticket here.

I need your exact setup (configuration of the add-on options page).
- What folders do you archive, IMAP? POP? Local?
- Where do you archive to, IMAP? POP? Local?
Are you able to partially disable archiving of some folders to get it working and filter out the offending archive operation?
Hi John,
See the 2 screenshots, first from the "General" options and the 2nd from the account I backup.
What folders do you archive: IMAP (and not POP3 as the image name suggest)
Where do you archive to: Local
It doesn't seems that I'm able to disable the archiving of some folder.

It does not crash here when I archive from IMAP to IMAP and also not from IMAP to Local.
In your second screenshot, you show one of the three account tabs. If you uncheck all checkboxes in tab2 (.org), tab3 (.org) and tab4 (Local), the add-on should not be doing anything.
- Please verify that it does not crash if all (!) checkboxes are unchecked.
- Slowly reselect those checkboxes until it crashes again.
Hi John,
let's call tab2 : "main" , tab3 "IMAP" and tab4 "local".
So "main" and "local" was already unticked (as not archived), only "IMAP" is.
When I uncheck everything on "imap": it doesn't crash anymore.
It doesn't crash until I check the 4th one. (it runs fine with the first 3).
I check with ONLY the 4th checked : it also crash

What are archive options of that IMAP account (independent of the add-on)?
Could it be that it has an invalid destination folder (you said it is a local one)?
Can you select a different destination folder?
Can we rule out a "running out of disk space" issue?

Sorry, I don't know where to look for the first question (archive outside of the add-on).
The destination can be changed, without effect and we can rule out the out of space.

You can change the destination there (and I think it is the only place where that can be set).
Your Thunderbird 102 crashes independent of the destination you set there?
- local folder?
- folder within the IMAP account?

Hi John,
So by changing the destination (same localfolder, but on a new folder) : it didn't crash with the 4 options selected.
It crashs again when I'm switching back to the original folder within the (same) local folder.
As per the folder within the IMAP account, there is no way to select only a subfolder, but only the whole account.

Can you provide details about the local folders (the one that worked as a destination and the one which did not)?
Can you post their full names or paths? Looking for suspicious things, like special characters.

The path you posted is not inside your profile folder, how did you create these local folders?
What are the names of the folders in Thunderbird? Could I have a screenshot of the local folder similar to this one?

See above (sorry, I cannot add a screenshot within my comment).
Here is the path of the Local Folders itself : C:\Sync\Purchased Shared Backup\Purchase_Shared_Archive

Thanks, so there is nothing obviously strange with the name of the broken folder, besides the underscore. I will test that.
That these local folders are not in your profile folder however is an outstanding element.
- How did you create these local folders in Thunderbird?
- The name "C:\Sync" indicates some sort of external sync mechanism (outside of Thunderbird?). Could we run into a file/folder locking situation, where another app is locking the folder and Thunderbird dies trying to write to it, because it does not expect that to happen?
- Can you disable that other app, restart your PC and see if that fixes the problem?

Hi John,
- I basically create a "normal" folder into a C:\Sync windows directory. I then moved the location path of "Local Folders" to this specific new path (instead of the one in the Thunderbird Profile). Note : This has been done and use daily for +2 years now. The crash only happened since v. 102.3 (102.2 it was still working fine).
- Sync is indeed a sort of sync mechanism (outside of Thunderbird), based on Sync.com. an agent is responsible to sync the data among all the users of our company. However, I'll rule out this because of 1) and also because the test folder (which works) was on the same "C:\Sync" folder. So no risk of "locking", "concurrent access" or "limited read/write access limitation".
- We however tried to disable the synchronization of Sync.com agent, restart the computer : it's still the same behavior.

Out of curiosity, could you create another test folder in your sync folder with an underscore and check if that works?

I did create another test folder (TEST_test). It works (with the sync enabled AND disabled).

Do you need me for testing something else ?

I am out of ideas here. There is something going on with this one folder, but using a different folder with a similar name works. Also I do not know why it only happens if the 4th option is ticked (the first 3 are: unread, starred, tagged, the 4th one is everything else).
Not being able to reproduce this makes it very hard for me to work on this.

Nono: Does repairing the folder has any effect? Please backup the messages in that folder first.

"Repair Folder" is found in the folder properties dialog.

The issue seems to disapearred for some time (version?) and just re-appearred, since the 27 Dec 2022
The "Repair Folder" unfortunately doesn't change the situation.
