Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pl-PL; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pl-PL; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212 When you turn on an option to periodically check mail for an account and you use master password then you will be asked to give this password even while being offline, every time instant when mail whould be checked normally. It seems that the mail is not checked while being offline, so it is only the password being queried needlessly. I was also surprised that the mail querying thread is running while I am offline. I will try to file a new bug on that. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up an account to have mail checked every minute and restart mozilla (see bug 185782) 2. Set up a master password on your security device Actual Results: You will be asked for a password after approx 1 minut. If you cancel it you will be asked again after next minute, and so on periodically if you continue cancelling. Can be annoying :) Expected Results: password should not be asked. Happens for me since 1.3a. RedHat 7.3
This is probably related, as again it only started happening when I upgraded from 1.1 to 1.3: I'm in online mode, and have accounts set to be checked every minute. These accounts do not require any password (they're on a local server), and Moz 1.1 never used to need the master password for these servers. 1.3 seems to require it to check a mail server (or possbily news - I haven't isolated which it is, but will do so on request) even if that server doesn't require a password. If this is completely unrelated, then apologies for the irrelevant posting!
Still a problem in build 20030724 on Windows XP. So this is a problem on all OSes. I also noticed that if you don't cancel the dialog new ones are genarated every minute and then if you let it there for example for 10 minutes you will have to cancel 10 times.

Still a bug in build 20030925 under Win XP. 1. Start Mozilla 2. go to offline mode 3. start Mail 4. wait password is asked for security device when recheck timer (check after 5min e.g.) is reached, although password is not necessary, because you are working offline suggestion: either disable recheck timer when offline or if recheck timer is reached, first check if offline, then access security device
Could you please recheck with a current nightly build? There was a checkin for bug #247417 that fixed two similar reports, one of them being the behavior described in comment #1. It might be that your bug is in fact not especially related to offline mode, but a manifestation of a more generic problem that got fixed with the above checkin.
resolving as dup - please try a new trunk build - if this isn't fixed in a new trunk build, please re-open this *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 247417 ***

David, The original description was a problem that occured while offline. The complaint is not so much that a master password prompt occurs when no password is stored for that server, but rather that it occurs while offline. Comment 1 describes a different problem that occurs while online. I think the problem in comment 1 has been fixed, but it's not clear that the original description problem has been fixed, nor that it is a dup of the other cited bug.
Hi everybody, I am afraid that this bug is not a duplicate to bug #247417. Please reopen it. The real problem only occurs when Mozilla Mail is in *offline* mode and no password has been entered for the master security device. You can reach this condition by either entering Mail in offline mode and waiting or by going offline and looging out of seurity device. Mozilla Mail will ask for the password, yes for every account, although it will not use it because in offline mode it will mot connect to the server. It seems as if Mozilla first tries to get the unencrypted password before the check occurs that it is in offline mode and will not connect the server. As a fix, the sequence should be altered so that Mozilla first checks for online/offline mode and then checks for passwords...
