I had an IMAP account with junk mail controls enabled. I disabled them, but
couldn't delete the folder through Mozilla (similar to bug 190354, but perhaps
'unable to delete Junk folder even when junk mail controls disabled' should be a
new bug), so I deleted the folder on the server instead, and sure enough, it
disappeared. However, I had a crash, and it looks like the setting hadn't been
saved, because it was checked next time I looked.

I unchecked the setting, and the Junk folder reappeared!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable junk mail controls
2. Delete the Junk folder with another app, make sure Mozilla picks up the change.
3. Disable junk mail controls

Actual Results:  
Junk folder was recreated

Expected Results:  
Junk folder should not be created

This is quite closely related to bug 194486 -- also opened by reporter.

I don't have an IMAP account, so I can't check this; still happening in 1.4?

Yes, this is still happening, just tested on 1.4/Win2K.

Actually, I've narrowed it down a bit: the Junk folder is only recreated if you
uncheck "Enable junk mail controls" AND "Move incoming messages determined to be
junk mail to:" is still checked.

If you uncheck "Move incoming messages determined to be junk mail to:" then
uncheck "Enable junk mail controls", the folder isn't created.

Bug 194486 seems to be fixed now though!

I've just tested this in Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 (20060909) on Windows XP (thanks for the reminder, Wayne!) and it's still occurring - the Junk folder is created if 'Move incoming junk messages...' is checked even if 'Enable adaptive junk mail detection' is not.

Steps to reproduce:
* Check 'Enable adaptive junk mail detection'
* Check 'Move incoming junk messages...' and pick '"Junk" folder on <account>'
* Uncheck 'Enable adaptive junk mail detection' (above setting becomes greyed out)
* Click OK - the Junk folder is created unnecessarily.

sorry for the spam.  making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs.  filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.
