When forwarding an email as an attachment with all headers the headers in the
attached email are displayed incorrectrly.
To be precise:
Looking at the Sent folder copy:
- the headers of the email forwarded by the sent email show only a subset of
the email headers actually sent. This can be confirmed by checking the contents
of the actual mail folder file.
- the headers that are displayed for the mail forwarded by the sent email
contain values from the original, forwarded email as well as from the forwarding
email. Again, inspection of the displayed message headers and the actual mail
folder file will confirm this.
Looking at the received email:
- the headers of the email forwarded in the received email show only a subset
of the email headers actually received. This can be confirmed by checking the
contents of the actual mail folder file.
- the headers that are displayed for the mail forwarded by the received email
contain values from the original, forwarded email as well as from the forwarding
email. Again, inspection of the displayed message headers and the actual mail
folder file will confirm this.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select and view an email from the Inbox.
2. Make sure all headers are displayed.
3. Forward the email as an attachment to yourself.
4. Wait until the forwarded is received.
5. Compare email headers in Sent folder, an in the original and forwarded emails
in the Inbox. The headers of the forwarding (container) email and the forwarded
(contained) email should also be compared, and the displayed data should be
cross checked with the data in the folder files.
I will upload header file data from real emails forwarded.
File Index:
1 - Headers from original message received (from file - matches displayed header
in content, if not in order)
2a - Headers from forwarding email sent (from file - matches displayed header in
content, if not in order)
2b - Headers from message attached by the forwarding email in Sent folder (from
file)
2c - Headers from message attached by the forwarding email in Sent folder (from
displayed message)
3a - Headers from forwarding email received (from file - matches displayed
header in content, if not in order)
3b - Headers from message attached by the forwarding email received (from
displayed message)
3c - Headers from message attached by the forwarding email received (from file,
not from displayed message)
Actual Results:
This is a corruption of the data on display. The data displayed is not
consistent with the data in the mail folder file.
Header names and content displayed not consistent with the data actually sent or
received. The headers displayed are a subset of the values contained in the
actual mail file and the header values are intermingled with header values from
the containing email.
This makes it near impossible to deal with the "abuse" groups of various ISPs.
Depending on whether they also use Mozilla, the header data provide to them is
useless or points back to myself.
Other users complain about headers for forwarded email not being a complete list
or wrong or a combination thereof. Reports vary with the level of attention
users pay to the actual header name and values.
Expected Results:
The headers (names and values) displayed should be identical to the headers
contained within the mail file.
