Details

In bug 28586, Ian Thomas mentioned: "The Shuttleworth Foundation are offering a $500 'bounty' to be shared equally between the team of people who fix these bugs, including work already done. See the bottom of http://www.markshuttleworth.com/bounty.html for more info." Perhaps we could have a Mozilla-hosted bounty system where people could donate bounties for various bugs, and then on this system it would appear what bounty is there for each bug. Stipulations wouldn't be allowed, but each donator could write what they are looking for, or why they are giving these bounties. 10% of all bounties (or something like that) could go back to Mozilla.org
This was suggested before, and rejected (for the time being) because of the large number of potential headaches (which are explored in the other bug) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 213437 ***

There's a site called sourcesupport.org that hosts a few Mozilla-related bounties. I think a good way to go would be for the people who really care about this bug to assist these folks in building out that site and keep it fully independent of Mozilla, so that we avoid all the entanglements that worry the Mozilla staff.
