User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.7 StumbleUpon/1.901 I simply cannot use the right-click, save-image-as option with either jpegs or gifs. I've not tried it with pngs. When you do try to save an image, nothing happens. No save dialog, no disk activity, no nothing. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right-click 2. Choose save image as 3. that's it. Actual Results: Nothing. Expected Results: Should get a save as dialog box.

Firefox/0.7? CVS build? Also, do you have Firebird set to ask, or save to a specific location? If the latter, it will automatically download in 0.8.
this happens also to me usinf firefox (0.8) but was NOT there using 0.6 and 0.7 Menu/File/"save page as" doesn't do anything image/right click/"save image as" doesn't do anything image/right click/"save link as" doesn't do anything and this has nothing to do with the new "download manager" (In reply to comment #0) > User-Agent: > Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.7 StumbleUpon/1.901 > > I simply cannot use the right-click, save-image-as option with either jpegs or > gifs. Addition : for me , this is (a) blocking, (b) critical and I'm considering downgrading to 0.7 for th etime being, I have to copy-paste URIs in Internet Explorer to be able to "save pages as" or to save images to disk...
On Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040222 Firefox/0.8.0+ totally brand new profile, it segfaults on "Save Image As..." Works fine in 20040212.

I am getting the same behavior - right-clicking 'save image as' or 'save link as' does absolutely nothing. Several friends have seen the same behavior. This is on a fresh Firefox install.
Having the same problems, with links, or images. Using fresh install of FireFox 0.8 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8) Might have to check the latest build, if 20040206 isn't it (just downloaded the installer on Feb. 24) Just checking around in preferences, thinking maybe it had to do with the download manager, or where files are defaulted to save to. I clicked on JavaScript Console on a whim. There were a couple errors in there. Both the same. I cleared the console, and re-tried right click>save image as, or right click>save link as ... then went back to the JavaScript Console ... the error was there again. Here's the output of the error: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.createInstance]" nsresult: "0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/contentAreaUtils.js :: nsHeaderSniffer :: line 439" data: no] .... hope this helps to figure out exactly what's going wrong, and how to fix. I should also mention I'd previously been using FireBird 0.7, and this problem did not exist. I'll check a more recent build, if that doesn't work I guess I'll downgrade to 0.7 again, until the next build is available.
Downloaded, and installed 20040210 build, and right click > save image as, and right click > save link to disk are working fine. Pulled this build off a download mirror (assuming the official installer link is still going to the 20040206 build). http://mirrors.kernel.org/mozilla/firefox/releases/0.8/Firefox-0.8.zip is what I downloaded.
in the MSI version I downloaded : firefox.exe of 6 750 208 bytes, lastmod=Sat 2004-Feb-07 12:12:00 in your ZIP : firefox.exe of 6 750 208 bytes, built on 10th Feb 2004, 22:12 may-be an explanation ? made a fresh instal of that zip in an other directory, it's the same : Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.createInstance]" nsresult: "0x80570015 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CI_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/contentAreaUtils.js :: nsHeaderSniffer :: line 439" data: no]

A fresh uninstall/reinstall seemed to fix the issue. No idea why or what was causing the problem before, but it's working now.

added 07/05/04. right clicking to save image as froze firefox 0.9.1 in windows xp. i get the save as dialogue box and after i click save, nothing happens except getting the hourglass icon with the mouse. after a few minutes, i click on the titlebar and it adds "not responding" to the titlebar. i've had to use task manager to close firefox. duplicated this twice. build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1

In my experience, Save Image As... is incredibly _slow_. It seems to be very slow to open some file, taking up to 30 seconds to open the files on my 1GHz XP box with 512MB RAM. This behavior appeared (I think) with release 1.7 of Mozilla. I upgraded to 1.7.2 with no improvement. The current Firefox has the same behavior. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3 The same save as operation performed with IE 6.0.2800 is almost instantaneous across the board. The problem is clearly with the Mozilla implementation.

I am experiencing a similar problem. Problem ================================ Unable to download when right clicking and choosing "Save As" on a file when connected to a URL such as FTP://ftp.url.com NOTES ================================ This was not an anonymous login but a username and password login May or may not be a problem with anonymous login as I was unable to test it. Reproducable? ================================ Always when browsing deep in folders Never when on initial page or just one folder deep Reproduction Steps ================================ Reproduced in Windows XP SP2 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Reproduced in RedHat 9 with version Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect to an ftp site that needs a login 2. browse to a folder. Make sure it is multiple folders deep. (If I browsed to the first folder it was fine, but a couple of folders deep it wasn't). 3. Right click on a file and select download 4. The prompt for where to save it comes up. Select your desktop on Windows or you /home/username directory on Linux. Click Save 5. The file appears in Download manager and says done, however nothing was downloaded. Result of Steps ================================ The file appears in Download manager and says done Nothing was downloaded. No file is saved. Expected Result ================================ The file should have been downloaded and saved

This is a killer, considering how many times you want to download something without having to view the loaded image first. Firefox 1.0. Actually looking to do a "save target" or "save target as" - functionality seems to be either entirely missing or I'm missing the defined action...

This has been down for a couple of builds... a workaround is to Copy Image and paste it into a blank picture file. If you use Window's built-in MS Paint, create a new file of only a fex pixels by a few pixels; it will automatically ask to resize the canvas for the pasted image.

The original issue here is presumably now WORKSFORME? The posting yesterday by jcaesar is likely regarding bug 291846 which was FIXED a few hours later.

I am having exactly the same problem with Seamonkey 1.1 and 1.5a on Windows XP. Right clicking on an image and selecting "save as" does not bring up a dialog box, nor does "save page as" I installed without administrator priviledges but no errors were reported. One can right click and copy the image, then paste in "paint", but this is slow. Could this be the same bug that was later fixed in Firefox?

Try deleting the downloads.rdf file from your profile directory, that worked for me.

I am having the same problem with a slight variation Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Right-click 2. Choose save image as 3. I get prompted to choose a location and name the file 4. When I go to that location nothing has happened I am able to copy it into paint but I don't want to do that consistently. I am using Mozilla 2.0.0.3. The problem occurs whether I have a fresh install or whether I have add-ins attached. Even some of the add-ins that are supposed to save the file without right-clicking won't work either.

I'm having this problem too, go to this link, click the photo to enlarge and that second screen can NOT be right clicked to download. http://lunacie.com/re.aster/pages/imagePage/galaxy/m106/m106_001.htm

The problem with the above file appears to be a javascript error, not a problem with mozilla. Any click restores the original image before one can save. The procedure for deleting or clearing the download.rdf file and other corrective actions if ine cannot save is described at: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files

The difficlty with saving images and files is still a bug - something must be causeing a problem in the downloads.rdf Doing a "clean install" might not remove the file, since it is in the users profile. I had the problem when I upgraded to iceape; maybe it isn't compatible with earlier vresions of the file and should remove it.
