User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040823 Firefox/0.9.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040823 Firefox/0.9.3

I understand printing and fonts least of all, so for all I know, this bug could
be in another layer. That being said, here are some versions for what I'm
running (all in Debian):

mozilla-firefox: 0.9.3-2.2
xprt-common: 0.0.9.final.001-5
xprt-xprintorg: 0.0.9.final.001-5
cupsys-client: 1.1.20final+rc1-5
cupsys: 1.1.20final+rc1-3

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. load http://www.holub.com/goodies/uml/
2. File | Print
3. Select 'LaserJet@:64'

Actual Results:
Print dialog comes up for ~3 secs.
Mozilla goes boom & disappears.

Expected Results:
Page prints.
Seem to be a lot of print problems lately. See bug 256797, bug 257051.
Paul Boin: Could you provide TalkBack incident ID?

I've been seeing this bug on my Linux Firefox nightlies for a few weeks now. I'm
on a Mandrake 10.1 Community / Gnome 2.6 setup. If I try to print any web page,
Firefox crashes with the following console error message:

symbol lookup error: /home/apps/firefox/firefox-bin: undefined symbol:
FTC_Image_Cache_New

Talkback doesn't come up on its own after the crash. If I set run Talkback
manually to turn it on to capture the information, it still doesn't come up
after the crash.

Printing from Mozilla 1.7.2 works fine.

this needs a release note. someone can explain which versions of freetype work
and which don't, bug 258829 probably has an explanation.

Summary: Print crashes. → Print crashes. undefined symbol: FTC_Image_Cache_New
Freetype 2.1.9 from Fedora Core 3 doesn't work with current gtk2+xft build of
Mozilla and Firefox.
I don't understand your comment about relnote.
recent distributions will probably move to this version of freetype or newer.
As the function FTC_Image_Cache_New used by mozilla/firefox seems to be
deprecated, more and more users will not be able to print.
manually downgrading freetype is not an acceptable workaround.
Mozilla and Firefox unable to print at all on recent linux distributions sounds
like a big problem to me.
shouldn't it be more logic that mozilla/firefox start to use the new freetype
function, which should be the good long term solution ?
did I miss something ?

No gtk2+xft (firefox) build has been released with this problem. Anyway, I
already have a patch waiting for sr.
