Details

Network connectivity is lost in both MailNews and browser if, after an IMAP folder is opened or mail is downloaded from a POP server which require passwords, and subsequently you attempt to open another IMAP folder on a different server, or download POP mail on a different server. To reproduce: 1. Open IMAP folder with "remember password" pref unchecked [Currently, I believe, that pref is not honored anyway; filed this as bug 25697] 2. Enter password: folder is opened 3. Open IMAP folder on different server, or Get Msg on a POP server Actual result: If you're attempting to open an IMAP folder, the status bar reads "Checking mail server capabilities..." and Mozilla becomes unresponsive for a few seconds. Subsequently, when you open a message, only the headers will be displayed (from .msf file); browser can't load pages. Expected result: normal operation, IMAP folder is opened Additional info: Bug 21596 reports loss of network connectivity after certain dialogs (including "Open Web Location" and the htaccess password dialog). This might be another manifestation of that bug. Note that after step (2), you *can* change to a (non-authenticated) newsgroup and browse messages there as well as web pages in the browser. So the problem happens when the password dialog is invoked the second time at step (3). However, no password dialog appears. Linux build 2000.01.30.09
As remarked in bug 21596, it's not really network connectivity that's lost. Somehow the password dialog screws up lots of things, including repainting in the browser window, the menus, and IMAP and POP functionality. Changing summary and moving to Back End. The main difference between this bug and bug 25710 is that I have single signon turned off (Preferences | Advanced | Prefill passwords unchecked) and still get the same problem.
Summary: Complete loss of network connectivity after logging on to mail server → Loss of mail functionality after logging on to mail server
