User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041026 Firefox/1.0RC1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041026 Firefox/1.0RC1 We use basic transparent auth through our firewall. If I start Firefox, then check any live bookmark feed, it displays "Live Bookmark feed failed to load" for all feeds. This will continue to occur even after I subsequently visit a site to prompt authentication through our fire wall. If I restart Firefox and visit an external site, I am prompted for authentication (my credentials are saved), then check my live bookmarks all load ok. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start Firefox 2.Click Bookmarks 3.Select a Live Bookmarks feed. Actual Results: Live Bookmarks entry displays "Live Bookmark feed failed to load". Expected Results: Prompt for my auth credentials to pass through the firewall.

I see this same problem when I connect using 'dial-up' or use t-mobile at SFO. In both situations firefox is already running but there is no connection the internet. IINM, there is an update period you can set somewhere (about:config?), but I don't think there is a separate one for when they fail completely. IMO, there should be a mechanism to update the bookmark as soon as firefox knows it is online (if it can know), or to have a separate retry period which is much shorter than the existing 'update period'. Of course, it should fail silently, just as it does now. Max.
The live bookmarks only refresh once every hour by default. A workaround is to refresh the live bookmark once you have been authenticated. See bug 268944 for information on the livemark refresh interval. If refreshing the live bookmark still doesn't work after you've been authenticated, please reopen this bug.

Refreshing a live bookmark does work after authentication. The problem is, I have to refresh all live bookmarks individually; or (currently) wait for an hour to pass; or restart the browser, force authentication, then read my bookmarks. I'm with Max on what's required. Even the discussion in bug 268944 is not focussed on this problem. What we are talking about here is not a refresh rate, per se. But a once off refresh that could be triggered by authentication, or even an initial refresh that triggers authentication. At least a manual option would make life easier, eg "Refresh all live bookmarks". Cheers, Michael

This is valid. I'm not sure what the right fix is, but we could retry on a timeout if loading failed due to proxy issues.

No, refreshing all won't be the answer. Resetting the state of the bookmarks so that opening the folder in question would repeat the first-run actions is much better, and less perf-heavy.

Is it just me, or this bug has been fixed on FF 1.01? [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050223 Firefox/1.0.1]
The same behaviour is still happening for me under 1.0.1.

Summary: live bookmark feed fails to load if no prior authentication → live bookmark feed fails to load if no prior authentication (can't connect at startup)
I also have this problem in 1.5.0.1 Firefox is set to use a proxy that requires authentication. When firefox is opened, I am prompted for credentials. LiveBookmarks attempt to update before credentials are supplied/confirmed and fail to load. After authenticating, live bookmarks will update at the refresh interval (provided firefox is left open) or if they are manually updated. Live Bookmarks *should* wait until the user is authenticated / the home page loads before the first update.

I am seeing this problem in Firefox 2.0.0.4 as well. When I add an authenticated feed url to the live bookmark list, the feed does not load successfully on startup. It doesn't load even if I try to reload it. Looking at the request/response using Live HTTP headers, I see the server challenging for authentication. But the Basic Auth prompt does not show up and the bookmark fails to load. This is a very important features for intranet users who use Live Bookmark to subscribe for authenticated feeds in their organization.
In my situation, I have to go through a proxy server that requires authentication. So when connecting, Firefox first prompts me for my master password and then displays an already completed logon dialog for the proxy. So obviously, I'd expect FF to do the same when loading live bookmarks. FF 2.0.0.13 still has the problem. Is it ever gonna be fixed?
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1 I'm running into this bug now that I'm at a site requiring authentication. Any chance of a fix in FF3?
