User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041026 Firefox/1.0RC1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041026 Firefox/1.0RC1 If Firefox is set to use an http proxy that asks for usename/password authentication, the Live Bookmarks will always fail to load (probably) beacuse Firefox can't download the RSS File without knowing the proxy password. Clicking Refresh Live Bookmark after accessing some page the triggerd firefox to ask for proxy username/password, the Live Bookmark loads ok. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make sure Firefox is set to use some http proxy that asks for a password 2. Make sure you have some Live Bookmark. 3. Make sure (all of) your home page(s) is set to some address that does not uses the proxy (usually localhost, but about:blank is better). 4. Start Firefox (close it and start, if you prefer) 5. Go into Bookmarks menu and navigate to some Live Bookmark folder. Actual Results: Contents of Live Bookmark folder displays as "Live Bookmark Feed Failed to Load" Expected Results: Firefox should either: 1. Ask for the proxy's username/password by the time the user tries to see the Live Bookmarks Contents 2. Ask for the proxy's username/password as soon as it tries to load the RSS feeds, i.e. right after it starts 3. Display a better error message, explaing that the problem isn't that bad.
setting version to 1.0; (should have done it while reporting)
Version: unspecified → 1.0 Branch
Inspite of the homepage being set to a location that has to be served by the proxy, this problem occurs if the "Live Bookmark" is directly under (not in a sub-folder) "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" (or a folder that is set as "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder). This is just an observation. Solving the root cause should solve this as well.

If you're starting up Firefox without internet connectivity, the initial fetch of the feeds will fail. The workaround is to restart the browser or refresh livemarks individually. Comment in bug 266348 if you disagree. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 266348 ***
