Firefox and Thunderbird have an very good autoupdate system for the program
itself and for the extensions.
This is THE one think that i and others really miss in Mozilla Suite.
I hope someone can port this to the Suite.

Bug 271745 describes that the OLD-autoupdate in Mozilla Suite doesn't work.
The think that i described here says to port the new autoupdate system that is
used in Firefox and Thunderbird to Suite.
It is possible that to port the autoupdate we need to port the extension manager
first, but i'm not sure...

The only reason the old one doesn't work is no one has set it up to work.
There's a URL in the product, and nothing on the server.
If you can't get someone to put some simple RDF on the server to fix bug 271745
then you're not likely to get this much more ambitious task done. That said, I
doubt there's any hold up about *hosting* the file, just no one has set up the
build to produce it.
Netscape versions used the old scheme -- it works and is tested.

Valid Bug Report. Certian and remaining issues would be have to be sorted out
somehow. Like bug #120201 where Mozilla got the "Software Update &
Installation" and not sure how bug #121506 fit into this with the XPI Install...
Does the everything related to bug #120201 need to be revamped or what since it
is hardly used? What is Mozilla's goal on this?

Adding bug #121506 & bug #268172 as it is not taken seriously but would have
been nice to know it's there just in case. Adding bug #271745 based on comment
#3 since folks seem to be now working on it in bug #271745.
Fixed by bug 408190.
