User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1 When I want to find URL's that I MAY already have bookmarked, I go to Manage Bookmarks and enter keywords in the Search field. That gives me all the URL's all right, but it does not tell me WHICH FOLDER(s) I filed them in. I miss that feaature a lot, PLUS one that would allow me to find FOLDERS WITHIN FOLDERS. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.go to Manage Bookmarks 2.enter keywords in the Search field. 3.That gives me all the URL's all right, but it does not tell me WHICH FOLDER(s) I filed them in. I miss that feaature a lot, PLUS one that would allow me to find FOLDERS WITHIN FOLDERS. Actual Results: That gives me all the URL's all right, Expected Results: but it does not tell me WHICH FOLDER(s) I filed them in. I miss that feature a lot, PLUS one that would allow me to find FOLDERS WITHIN FOLDERS. I've become a serious user of Firefox bookmarks and I have a lot of data that I need to find fast. Any particular URL can legitimately by filed under several different folders, but I would like to be able to search for similar URLS in order to follow my own protocols, ie. "OK, what path did my thinking go last time, let me try to stick to a filing thread that I've already established."

just so I understand this correctly (Please reply in bug); Are you looking for simply the Bookmarks "Find" to show you what folder a found bookmark is in, or looking for the folder itself to be found when a search matches against it's name (or both)?
(In reply to comment #0) > Expected Results: > but it does not tell me WHICH FOLDER(s) I filed them in. Duplicate of/related to Firefox bug 196509/Suite bug 56418? > <..>PLUS one that would allow me to find FOLDERS WITHIN FOLDERS. Related to Suite bug 118394?
confirming per reporter's summary "can't find (SUB)FOLDER" - this capability currently does not exist. However, FF bug 196509 covers the rest of the reporter's request - to show containing folder in the results. Note - suite is a different product, so FF bugs don't get marked as dups of suite bugs namely bug 56418 and bug 118394 and (sort of?) bug 95748

I want to be able to find any URL that I previously bookmarked. I filed this question a while back, and just now received emails that steered me back to Bugzilla. Since filing this I have started making extensive use of Kaboodle (my Kaboodle is http://kaboodle.com/frank and this goes a long way toward resolving this need and then some. The folks at Kaboodle have assured me that they will be adding subfolders shortly.
(In reply to comment #3) > just so I understand this correctly (Please reply in bug); > > Are you looking for simply the Bookmarks "Find" to show you what folder a found > bookmark is in, or looking for the folder itself to be found when a search > matches against it's name (or both)? > > It seems what's lacking is the tree location of the folder seen in the left pane become highlighted as I select from the search results in the right pane. IF that url appears in more than one folder, then some bracketed number indicating the number of hits or similar notice appearing would help. Perhaps a simple <Previous> or <Next> button. Currently, Search only searches on "Name," but I would also like to see searching expland to segments of an url and possibly further unto "Description." I had submitted this bug later as # 421079 and was responding to feedback I got today. Thanks
I think that this current should be closed because there are 2 topics in one bug report: 1. view bookmarks folder in bookmarks library search: we could mark as a duplicate of bug 469416 2. folder search in bookmarks library: we could mark as a duplicate of the bug 406157
Duplicating forward to bug 406157 as per comment #11. Both topics of this bug are covered by other bugs: 1. Reporter hasn't been specific about HOW he wants to see containing folder in bookmarks library search results, and we have several bugs covering the first problem: - Bug 469416 (Add folder to the properties pane of bookmarks when viewing search results) - Bug 469421 (Add a folder column to search results for bookmarks in the library) - Bug 469441 (Add "Open Enclosing Folder" to search results of bookmarks in the Library window). 2. Searching for folders in bookmark library is covered by - Bug 406157 (Cannot search for bookmark folders in Library or bookmarks sidebar), where we have already started collecting the duplicates for that issue.
