Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050714 Firefox/1.0+ Steps to reproduce: 1. ~/Desktop/DeerPark july14.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p 2. Create a new profile 3. Look at your bookmarks. Result: There is an empty "Imported IE Favorites" folder, even though I'm using a Mac and never imported bookmarks from another browser.
Related to Suite bug 205483?
I think this only appears if you have never used IE on the mac before you launched Firefox though I'd need to test it on a clean system to be sure. The correct behavior of course should be to detect this and not run the IE import routine.
Firefox for Mac should let you choose which browser to import from (Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.) instead of just importing from IE. For bonus points: * Don't offer to import on a clean Mac (e.g. I've never used IE and the only thing I've used Safari for is to download Firefox). * On the wizard page that asks which browser to import from, have the radio button corresponding to the default browser checked.
I think this feature is a relic from seamonkey which would always create an "Imported IE Favorites" folder on both Windows and Mac by default, as Seamonkey has no import option like Firefox does. So perhaps they left this relic of seamonkey in the Mac version because until recently (it wasn't in 1.0) there were no browsers that Firefox could import from on the Mac. Now the IE and Safari migrators are written it should be a simple case of stripping this code out.
This will be fixed as part of bug 236304.
