Ok so every now and again you get a bug that is a pain to a "large minority" of your uses. So you manage to get the extension on to AMO, but then get lots of emails.
It would be nice if I could just simply put it in the sandbox, to give me time to fix it.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upload buggy addon
2. Get a million emails about the bug
3. Wish to pull if off AMO

This is now fixed in AMO 3.5. Public add-ons have the ability to toggle their add-on between public and sandbox.

Basil: I've nominated https://remora-3.5.php5stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/addon/7522 for public status. Could you approve that, and then I'll move it back to the sandbox, and verify this bug?
