When you add an RSS feed onto the bookmarks toolbar folder in Fx3a8 in Ubuntu, you get a small folder icon instead of the standard rss feed icon.

Hmm I reproduced but only once. Everytime afterwards I get the orange RSS icon with the drop down arrow in it.

I see this on Win XP as well, using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a9pre) Gecko/2007100905 Minefield/3.0a9pre. On Mac you get no folder icon at all, just a dropdown widget. I can attach screenshots if necessary.

from my comment in duped bug:
Basically, if the UI (Bookmarks Toolbar and/or Bookmarks Sidebar) is showing
when the feed is added, then the icon is a folder. If they aren't open, when
you do open it, the icon is the proper feed icon. Close then open the sidebar
will make the icon correct. Two ways I've discovered to correct the Bookmarks
Toolbar folder icon is to Customize and remove the folder then put it back. Or
simply restart the browser. Hiding the toolbar momentarily has no effect.

I am seeing just the opposite. One of my bookmark folders is incorrectly displaying the RSS icon with the drop marker.

Exiting Firefox and restarting it corrected the issue.

It would be nice if this bug was assigned to someone and a fix was in the works.

Sure would, but this is a cosmetic issue, and nowhere near the immediate priority.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
