There are a few inproduct URLs in Thunderbird. One of them is the release notes URL which points to www.mozillamessaging.com for Thunderbird/Shredder 3.0a2pre.
l10n release notes are leading to a 404 error at the moment. Maybe we could have redirects to mozilla-europe.org or to the l10n project pages?
The correct URLs for german release notes:
Official releases (example):
http://www.thunderbird-mail.de/wiki/Versionshinweise_2.0.0.16
Alpha/Beta (example):
http://www.thunderbird-mail.de/wiki/Versionshinweise_Shredder_Alpha_1
Flags: wanted-thunderbird3.0a2?

CCing Pascal. I'd hope to not use mozilla-europe for this, but mozillamessaging.com.
This is not a german bug, moving over to Thunderbird.
Note, it would help to get actually some detailed information about what's currently happening, so that we don't have to reverse engineer that from scratch.

In source:
/mail/app/profile/all-thunderbird.js
* line 114 -- pref("app.releaseNotesURL", "http://www.mozillamessaging.com/%LOCALE%/%APP%/%VERSION%/releasenotes/");
Generated URL is like:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/de/thunderbird/3.0a2pre/releasenotes/
These files aren't existing, so which solution is preferred?
1) l10n pages at mozillamessaging.com
2) redirects to mozilla-europe.org
3) redirects to community support sites
2nd URL in apps source is the support URL from Help menu in messenger-region/region.properties, which points to mozilla-wolrd.org for l10n builds at the moment:
mailnews.hints_and_tips.url=http://www.mozilla-world.org/de/products/thunderbird/support

We could technically put redirects on mozillamessageing to mozilla europe and host localized in-product pages for alpha and beta versions of thunderbird in mozilla europe, but the pros and cons and the work load it implies should be discussed with David Asher before as I don't know what he has planned for Thunderbird 3.

There's a bunch of stuff to figure out here, including where the pages should be, if its mozillamessaging.com how do we change that site and grant access so that l10n teams have as easy a workflow as possible, etc. I'll update the bug when we have more clarity.

So, FYI, the current en-US release notes are discussed in bug 443369.
Given that we're way late, and that we don't have a plan for how to do l10n of release notes, my inclination is to a) not block release on l10n of release notes, and b) not _expect_ l10n of a2 release notes.
I'd rather see us work towards figuring out the infrastructure & process stuff with b1 in mind.
I'm happy to find out what others think!

I agree that having localized relnotes is not really necessary for an alpha release.

I have no problems with this, but we need to ensure the current urls redirect to the en-US release notes. For instance with the fr build I've just gone to Help -> Release Notes and its gone to:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/fr/thunderbird/3.0a2/releasenotes/
Obviously this isn't there at the moment (or the en-US version), but we need to ensure the locales will be correctly redirected.

The attached .htaccess will redirect all access to the 3.0a2 start page in any locale to /en-US/, except you are already trying to view en-US, of course.

Uh, unfortunately the start page wasn't what we wanted to deal with, but the release notes. I can do the obvious replacement, but i know that reed has some other comments, so will hold off.

Might as well put this in the blocking bucket, as it's certainly needed for final anyway.

Rafael, what's needed for this bug to be resolved as FIXED? From my POV this bug can be closed. Am I missing something?

redirects are in place, for release notes and other pages that we're linking to from the chrome, preferences, or start-up.
