Currently the support page (Help -> Thunderbird/Shredder Help) is redirected to http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/
As we now have www.mozillamessaging.com, and the future possibilities for localising content we should/rewrite the current page on our website.
Tentatively setting b2 as if we want to allow localisers time to do the necessary, we'll probably want the content written by then.

I don't know what the timeline is for Tb3 RC1, but the www.mozilla.org transition should be happening within a month. Ideally, I'd like the Thunderbird support content moved before the www.mozilla.org transition.

Let me know how I can help redirect or archive any of the pages in the support/thunderbird/ directory:
http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-org/source/html/support/thunderbird/

I believe these are the changes that need to be done. If there's anything else that needs to be done, please leave a followup comment:
1. change link in TB App Help to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/ instead of http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/
2. top tabs (Projects, Developers, Community, Contribute, Foundation About) - non TB stuff that's already on footer of momo.com pages, nothing to port to MoMo
3. Left Sidebar:
1. Thunderbird Help (don't need)
2. Mozilla Thunderbird FAQ (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq move to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/faq )
3. Tips and Tricks (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/tips move to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/tips )
4. Keyboard Shortcuts (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/keyboard move to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/keyboard)
5. Mouse Shortcuts (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/mouse move to http://www.mozillamesaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/mouse)
6. Menu Reference (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/menu move to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/menu and prepare update for TB3)
7. Editing Config files (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/edit move to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/support/en-US/thunderbird/edit and prepare update for TB3)
8. Reporting Bugs (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/bugs move to http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/bugs, update in the future that if a user is in doubt to file it in GS instead and/or the difference between support request, feature request and bug)
9. Thunderbird Product Page (don't need this since it's implicit on MoMo page)
10. Forums (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/forums, change to http://www.mozillamessaging.org/en-US/support/thunderbird/forums and change content to included mention of Get Satisfaction and in the future add GS widget(s))
4. Have a Specific Question? - no need to port content, will be taken care of by GS widget and existing content on momo support page
5. New To Mozilla Thunderbird? - no need to port content, will be taken care of by GS widget and existing content on momo support page
6. Footer - Support Options, Security Center, Privacy Policy, Contact Us - already taken care by existing MoMo footer

new strategy after speaking with :gozer and :rebron : put support content where it makes sense (which is most of the existing pages) on wiki.mozilla.org to enable community editing for now until we get a KB solution (hopefully SUMO and hopefully before Thunderbird 3)
Given this new strategy here is my proposed list of changes in the following format:
original url -> redirect1 ->redirect2 "real" url (until we move to support.momo.com hopefully using SUMO hopefully before Thunderbird 3 gets released)
1. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/ -> http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/ -> no 2nd redirect needed
2. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/faq -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/faq
3. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/tips ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/tips -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/tips
4. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/keyboard ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/keyboard -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/keyboard
5. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/mouse ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/mouse -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/mouse
6. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/menu ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/menu -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/menu
7. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/edit ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/edit -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/edit
8. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/bugs ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/bugs -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/bugs
9. http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/forums ->
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/thunderbird/forums -> wiki.mozilla.org/thunderbird/support/forums

IMO Not at the moment as we've still got in-Thunderbird 3 pages going to www.mozilla.org.

I believe that we've got enough done that we can manage with what we've got here, but we should complete these translations asap.

We don't need to block 3.1 on this as its a website issue. Though Roland should finish these soon ;-) (or move them to be SUMOMO articles?)

I can help set up the redirects for the support pages on www.mozilla.org. Is the list in comment #5 final?
Comment 11•15 years ago
|

Only one of them doesn't give me a 404.
Right now, if I go to <http://www.mozillamessaging.com/> and click on Support, I am taken to <http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/>, not <http://support.mozillamessaging.com/>. Plus the links in the top right-corner still point to www.mozilla.org pages. That indicates to me that MozillaMessaging is not ready for us to redirect those links.

Can we call this one fixed? Help > Thunderbird Help points me to http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/ . None of the links on http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/ point to the www.mozilla.org thunderbird support pages.
Looks to me like we can go ahead and start redirecting the www.mozilla.org URLs.

Per discussion with Roland on IRC, this bug is fixed, and we're ready to start redirects from the www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/* URLs.
I'll file that as a separate bug.
