User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080702 Firefox/2.0.0.16 Build Identifier: 2.0.0.16 I wish to stop Thunderbird from filtering incoming mails for junk and marking as junk. I go to Tools | Account Settings | Junk Settings, I ensure than nothing is checked, in particular "Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account" is not checked. However Tbird still marks mails as junk. It appears that this control does not work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Tools | Account Settings | Junk Settings 2.Uncheck Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account 3. Actual Results: No effect Expected Results: Stop tagging mails as junk
Is the "[x] Trust junk mail headers set by" option set?
Version: unspecified → 2.0
(In reply to comment #1) > Is the "[x] Trust junk mail headers set by" option set? No none of the checkboxes in this interface are ticked for any mail account.
What are the settings under Preferences, Privacy, Junk?
Nothing checked.
I've just opened a bug which might be related (bug #472959), and this one came up in my search for Dups. I've got two questions. First question: When you toggle the checkbox and press "OK" in the "Account Settings" GUI, does the new setting actually get saved? (My bug report is that toggling this one, (and/or several other values too), your change isn't actually being applied at all--- the next time you start TB, or even re-open the "Account Settings" panel, your OLD value is still there, AND TB continues running as if you never made the change.) My second question is: Antony, do you maybe still have "enable adaptive junk controls" set as "TRUE" for the special "Local Folders" Account, while changing only the settings within a specific POP/IMAP account listed above? If so, the TB Developers will also want to know whether your POP/IMAP Account was set up to "use global Account folders" or stay within it's own Inbox. The "Account Settings" GUI doesn't show what you chose for this when the "real" account was first set up. :(
I'm seeing the same problem If I change my Junk settings, and then go back Account Settings -> Junk Settings -> Set the Move or Unset "Enable adaptive" Click OK Go back to Account Settings -> Junk Settings and they have not been remembered. This account is NOT using Global Account Folders. Can someone mark it "Confirmed" Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090118 Shredder/3.0b2pre
I can confirm this bug on Windows: it is impossible to change the state of 'Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account' checkbox. The checkbox state is not remembered. Confirmed on IMAP and POP3 accounts. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090119 Shredder/3.0b2pre
Valery, you and Mitra might be suffering bug 473781, for which a fix was pushed yesterday; any new "nightly" (starting from today's) should have it present. It patches errors cause from bug 435775. But Antony, your original bug might be a case of my bug 472959. Like this one, my bug was occurring in builds from before 435775, and I've isolated a different latent defect. I've got functional code which solves my problem, I'm about pull the current module and "diff" it into a genuine patch. Here's what I recommend that you do for YOUR bug: 1) Before doing anything else, make a ".zip" or equivalent archive of your entire profile tree. 1) Then, pull a "fresh" nightly "Shredder" that includes the 435775 fix. (Anything dated today or later does include it.) Try and reset your "junk controls", report what happened. I expect that your "settings didn't stick" problem will still be present. 2) If you report that "bug still happens", please post your SHREDDER help:about build string (not your FIREFOX help:about, as you did in comment 1). If you have enabled "root user" on your box, and are capable of replacing Thunderbird's own "messenger.jar" by copying from a file you download from a website of mine (as "root user"), then you can do a pre-test of the fix I've created for my bug. Please advise-- or, for that matter, whether you don't want to bother with a test of unnoffical, not-yet-baked code. If you are able and willing to do a pre-test with my proposed "fix", I'll just grab "messenger.jar" from the Build date which you posted, replace the one file where my fix does it's work, and rebuild it-- I'll post that "messenger.jar" on one of my websites, you can download it from there. ("messenger.jar" is the same on Mac/Linux/Windows installations, I only have to start from your matching Build date.)
Per last comment, I've just posted my Patch (and, in case it's more convenient, the full am-junk.js file which SHOULD result from applying the Patch) in bug 472959.
I want to confirm this is fixed on MacOSX with current build Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090122 Shredder/3.0b2pre
Thanks Mitra-- yours was almost definitely a case of bug 473781. Now, for Antony: my first patch in bug 472959 was only partially effective, didn't cover all the test cases I could dream up (and your is probably one of the "failed to fix!" configurations). So I'll need to re-work that patch, over the weekend. :(
Hello Thanks everybody for your attention to this. I'm not really suitably tech to follow your instructions so looks like I'll just have to wait until the fix is rolled out in a real release. But if you need any more info from me, I'll be glad to help. Antony
I am experiencing this problem on Mac OSX 10.5.8 with TB3b3. Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Thunderbird/3.0b3 This does not seem to be bug 472959 as toggling the state of "Enable adaptive junk ..." does change settings when I exit & reenter the account preferences. The problem continues after this toggling (as well as after rebooting). I had been using TB2 (no TB3), with Junk disabled. I started up TB3b3 as my first use of TB3. I don't know whether Junk processing was running at that time. I did attempt to go back to TB2 after a day, but ran into display problems which I couldn't solve, so I went back to TB3b3. It was then that I notice TB3b3 was downloading all my mail folders (without me touching them) but I didn't understand why. Then I noticed Junk tags being stuck on my mail, both old & newly received. (So I presume that was why the mail folders were being downloaded.) My configuration is that nothing is checked in the Junk Settings under the 3 accounts. However, I do note that the greyed-out and unchecked Move Messages To has the greyed-out radio button checked for "Junk" folder on: (My imap account). That folder does exist but is unsubscribed and hasn't been changed for 5 years.

This is auto-synch getting launched (looks like it is) > My configuration is that nothing is checked in the Junk Settings under the 3 > accounts. However, I do note that the greyed-out and unchecked Move Messages > To has the greyed-out radio button checked for "Junk" folder on: (My imap > account). (even if unsubscribe we do synch the google junk account - known bug.) What is the value of mailnews.ui.junk.firstuse in your prefs.js file ?
I am seeing this problem (or very similar) in current branch Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6pre) Gecko/20091110 Shredder/3.0pre STR 1) Nothing checked on Tools > Options > Security > Junk, i.e. don't move (has radio but disabled), don't delete, don't mark as read don't enable logging 2) Per-Account Junk setting for POP3 account which is not associated with Local folders (separate account): Tools > Account Settings > AccountName > Junk Settings [X] enable adaptive Do not mark junk if Sender is in [X] Personal Address book (btw, shouldn't we have both "personal address book and "collected addresses" checked by default? [X] Move new junk messages to (o) Junk folder on AccountName [ ] Automatically delete after 14 days 3) receive junk mail 4) manually mark msg from account's inbox as junk (by clicking on junk spot in message list) Actual result 3) I have some mails which clearly look like junk but they weren't filtered out (no guarantees on this part) 4) manually marking as junk did not move the msg to the account's junk folder as expected (which is pretty bad in terms of UX); only junk icon was set instead of junk spot Surely we have to honor per-account junk settings even if "default junk mail settings" have junk filtering not activated? (Which also points to UI problems similar to bug 352428).

I originally reported this problem in Sept 2008. I now add that I just installed 3 (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20100111 Thunderbird/3.0.1), on a brand new Mac I love all the enhancements in 3 but this bug remains - strange. So to repeat. Nothing is checked in any of: 1) Preferences -> Security -> Junk Settings 2) Account Setting -> antony@maytech.net -> Junk Settings 3) Account Settings -> local Folders -> Junk Settings Yet TB insists on marking mails as junk - drives me crazy ;) There was some talk at some time about a problem with old profiles? SO I didn't import anything or use any old profiles. All was new from scratch. Will anybody fix or suggest a solution?
FOUND A WORKAROUND Create a message filter rule that matches ALL messages and sets Junk Status to NOT JUNK.
Possibly duplicate of Bug 546482 and Bug 676228. Please have a look.
Is this still happening to anybody?
(In reply to :aceman from comment #19) > Is this still happening to anybody? Thomas (comment 15) may be the only who could say - the original reporter is no longer using Thunderbird on a dailly basis.
wfm after testing this on WinXP Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:12.0) Gecko/20120420 Thunderbird/12.0 Here's my test scenario: - "edit as new" of recent junk msg which had been recognized as junk by TB - send that junk msg from myself to myself -> TB correctly recognized that msg as junk and moved it to acct's junk folder - disable all junk controls for: a) options | security | junk (this won't change a thing, due to UI problems similar to bug 352428) b) my account settings (this is the part that matters) c) local folder settings (to be on the safe side; probably not required) - "edit as new" of same recent junk msg as above which had been recognized as junk by TB - send that junk msg from myself to myself -> TB correctly did *not* mark that msg as junk and just kept it in acct's inbox + No recent confirmation (from reporter or others). + Original report probably due to a number of bugs which have already been fixed (see comments here) => Anything which might still occur needs a new bug. => resolving worksforme.

I hasten to add that I still see the very problem laid out in my comment 15 and that the interaction/intersection between the various default/global/per-account junk settings is utterly confusing (around bug 352428) to the extent that it seems broken.
