I can open pages using the "Open Web Location..." menu item, but when I try to
type the location directly into the location field and then press enter nothing
happens.

what buildid are you using? does this occur with a m17 or m18 build?
Comment 4•24 years ago

hm, i tried this out with today's m18, and it works for me. that should do the
trick.

I tried it with yesterday's M18 build, but with no success. I've found out more
about this bug. It seems to actually be related to the config.proxy file I'm
using. If I manually set my proxy settings everything works fine, but when I
switch to using config.proxy then nothing works (links, bookmarks, location bar).

hm, cc'ing tever (who works on proxy stuff), to see if he might have any ideas.
Just downloaded M18 zip, running under NT4, problem as described, browser wont
go to the site when you press enter.. currently using fixed proxies, as
auto.pac configuration doesnt seem to work at all. Even with manually set
proxies, I still have to use the 'open web location...' menu. This didnt happen
with the last milestone I used.

i still cannot repro this --but i'm using commercial branch bits. am guessing
this is trunk issue.
doron/asa, could either of you pls confirm?
Comment 10•24 years ago

I don't connect through a proxy so I can't confirm. Over to Networking.

if your problem is the proxy auto config (and I think it is) then this bug is a
known dup of bug 53080

Ive just read the bug this is supposedly a dupe of.. and dont see how this
applies? Im am using fixed proxies, not autoproxies, and my URL bar does not
respond to enter, I have to use 'open web location...'
I am using fixed proxies, as autoproxy doesnt work at all. I think this is a
separate issue though.
M18 is the first time the enter key has stopped working in the URL bar for me.
I am using the straight mozilla-win32-M18.zip under nt4.

worksforme. I use squid as proxy, which is required on this machine. Configured
using manul proxy configuration. Everything works fine.

For what it's worth, I have this bug while using the Junkbuster proxy (manual
proxy) on my Linux i386 system. This has been the case from early Mozilla
binaries all the way through milestone 0.7 (just downloaded). Turning off the
proxy by setting a direct Internet connection in Preferences->Advanced->Proxies
causes the URL field to work correctly. This is really annoying because I
either have to live with ads or not have a functional URL field!
Comment 17•24 years ago
|
||
there is a bug relating to junkbuster and HTTP/1.1 based proxies. This is
possibly a dup of that one. Till I can find that one... I am holding this open.

qa to me.
Please check mozilla 0.9 when it arrives and update us.
If this is a problem, we need to look further at your profiles and proxy
configs.

I tried using my config.proxy with 0.9: nothing worked. I could use the
location bar, "Open Location...", or any links. Manual configuration works fine.

I am getting this too and it is driving me crazy!!! It seems to have only
started recently. Maybe related to a certain preference?
Comment 22•23 years ago
|
||
Very Strange! It's working again now. I changed a few prefs and restarted
mozilla. The things I tried...
Change skin
Remove Go and search buttons
Clear location bar cache
No My Sidebar search results
Notify me When other apps change settings for file types or protocols
(Advanced > System)
That was in no particular order except for the last one which I definitely did
last, and there was more than one restart thrown in there as well.

somehow I get the same problem with todays nightly on a windows95 system behind
a squid proxy.
Haven't found a workaround yet, excep for the open web locaion menu.
Comment 25•23 years ago

found the cause for what happened. It was caused by Mozilla and Netscape 6.0
sharing the same user directory. So mozilla tried to use the Chrome files in the
netscape 6 user dir. removing those fixed the problem.
Comment 26•23 years ago
|

By user directory, you mean where you installed mozilla and netscape?

The proxy autoconfig I was using when I reported this bug works fine now.

VERIFIED/invalid - mozilla 1.0 cleanup.
probably because bug 53080 wasn't working well for a that period of time.
I don't know how Open Web Location did work when this failed, it suggests it
might have bypassed PAC somehow.
