We have received a great deal of feedback on a number of issues that are very prominent in the appearance of main windows using the Modern theme. These issues require mostly small css edits and graphic replacements, and would result in a far more professional looking appearance. A. Remove the divider on the main Navigator toolbar next to the url field which is not necessary and looks out of place. B. Currently, Modern has no style applied to dividers in the main toolbar of Messenger and Composer. Add a visual style to these dividers to help aid the user in visually categorizing buttons. C. Some of the round toolbar buttons in Messenger and Composer are incorrect when in the active state (when clicked). Marlon has re-done these images so that they match the other button images. D. We need to fix the "File" button in Messenger show that it is highlighted when the mouse moves over it, like the other toolbar buttons. E. Check in the real current progress meter. The current one was only checked in as as temporary placeholder. It also causes re-painting problems on the Mac (see bug #????) F. Feedback from users has told us that the scrollbar buttons and thumb have borders which are too thick, resulting in a confusing black gap when the thumb touches the top or button buttons. We need to lighten these borders to make it more apparent that the thumb is at the top/bottom of the scrollbar. G. The scrollbar thumb is 2 pixels thinner than the scrollbar. Users have told us that this results in some unexpected behavior When the window is maximized. If you move the mouse to the edge of the thumb and click to drag it, you will actually miss the thumb resulting in a page up/down.
Just to note, the progress meter painting bug I meant to reference above is bug 54069.

Adding one item per PDT: H. Redo border on throbber. The old throbber border is dull and too curved on the edges, make this border look like the groove around the URL field.

This is now partially fixed on the branch. Full checkin to branch and trunk coming soon.
I note that the new progress bar hasn't landed yet, so the symptoms described in bug 54069 still apply.
Due to the downstream impact on xpinstall, the fix to the progress meter is NOT approved (part E.) We do not want xpinstall to have to rewrite their dialogs and make a major checkin due to this part of the fix. If we had known of this impact initially, we would not have approved the fix for part E.
New progress meter is in... the simplified version. Would have been nice to get the more advanced one in but the risk is too great for RTM. Will try and get it into mozilla, perhaps. Marking fixed.

Joe, "need to fix the "File" button in Messenger show that it is highlighted when the mouse moves over it, like the other toolbar buttons", This still not fixed yet on windows, linux, and mac (2000-10-13-10-MN6)..
Can you land the more advanced progress meter in the trunk? Among other things, this would allow us to tell if we were running from the trunk or the branch.
If the new progress meter breaks the installer's progress meter (which is why it didn't land on the branch) then it shouldn't land on the trunk until that's resolved. BTW, the File button does highlight when I hover over it, using the 10/13 build on NT.
As Phil has suggested, we haven't yet worked out all the issues surrounding the new progress meter. Specifically, the XPI installer dialog would be broken, and nobody has any idea how to fix it. I think this is an issue we can work out post RTM. This bug should be closed. We can open another bug for the new progress meter.

I should also note that the File button does work for me using a 10/16 Commercial branch build.
Thanks Joe! Now I see it, marking verified for all platforms (2000-10-15-08-MN6).
