Details
If you write a new message and move from the address section to the main text area using TAB, the spelling button is not enabled (you can't change the current dictionary, but spell check is still working).
If you move using the mouse (click in the main text area), the spelling button is enabled ad expected.

Please remember to include your version and OS details, copy and pasted from Help -> About is just fine.
I'm pretty sure this is relating to the pre-3.1 bug which makes it a duplicate of bug 542060.

Now it's working fine with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; it; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100613 Lanikai/3.1.1pre
